Will Kilada | 6 comments Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut has both science fiction and nonfiction. The plot revolves around an American soldier in World War 2. His name is Billy Pilgrim, and he supposedly can travel through time. You travel with him on his adventures as he visits his past, when he was captured by German troops. He shows you the horror of Dresden being burned down, as well as the terrible conditions captured soldiers faced during WW2. Billy also travels to after the war, and even gets captured by Aliens. My favorite part about the book was the mystery. The readers had no clue if Billy was going crazy or actually time
traveling, which kept the story fresh. When I originally began reading Slaughterhouse Five, I found it confusing and boring. I could not figure out what time Billy was in and if it was real or not. If I could change one part of the book it would be the beginning. I would make the beginning more clear and explain better what was happening. However, maybe not understanding the book at first was part of the mystery that made me enjoy it and keep reading it. I assumed Slaughterhouse Five was one of the countless war books out there. I was wrong. Slaughterhouse Five is not merely a nonfiction book about the hardships of war, it has time travel, and aliens too. Although the book is a little out there, It is definitely worth the read.
