Julia F | 7 comments Harry Potter and Cursed Child by Jk Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany is a script of a play that takes place in our time. The main character is Harry Potter’s son Albus Severus Potter. Albus has a lot to live up too his dad is Harry Potter and he’s named after Dumbledore and Snape. Albus, during his first day of Hogwarts, befriends Scorpius Malfoy and gets sorted into Slytherin. He is the total opposite of his dad and they don’t get along.
Throughout the book Albus tries to make his dad proud and tries to correct some of his wrongs. When Amos Diggory comes to the Potter’s house the day before Albus’s second year telling Harry that Cedric should not have died that he shouldn't have been a spare that had to die for Harry. He asked Harry to use a time turner that was found a few days by the ministry of magic. Albus then meets Delphi who was with Amos and caught Albus eavesdropping his dad’s conversation with Amos. Albus decided that he’d get Cedric back with the help of Delphi, and Scorpius. Throughout Albus’s mission they have many obstacles and failures. They steal a time turner and travel through time but the slightest change can create a ripple that distorts the future. They find this out the first time they went back into the past. When they came back to the present their reality was different. At first they didn’t learn from their mistakes and go back again to save Cedric but soon realize that changing the past will change everyone’s future. They try to fix their mistakes and make things the way they were. Throughout the script Albus has to deal with the struggles of friendship, the relationship between his dad, different realities, his dads past, and dark magic.
The script did have some weird plot holes and jumps that were not smooth but it is a play and all of it has to fit into a reasonable time. The play is 4 acts and is two parts which is longer than most plays already. Sometimes it feels like it was written by fans instead of JK Rowling which makes sense since she wasn’t the only writer, but you can feel the other writers influences on the script. The characters are very good and you can feel hatred and love and sadness for one character throughout the whole script. The thing about reading a script is you read exit stage and see what the characters cues are that you wouldn’t normally read in other books. The cues make you see what you’re reading more than a normal book would. It describes some of the set changes and how the set should look like. One of my friends saw the play yesterday and said it looked like a movie because the effects were so realistic.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a great script ad probably an even more amazing play that has lots of plot twists that will surprise you. The book lets you see how the characters from your childhood are doing in their adulthood. You get to see how they are facing challenges with parenting and their jobs but you also get to see their children and see how similar or how totally different they are. This script helps add to the Harry Potter world that has been created by JK Rowling and is loved by so many other people.
