Are the women who become “girl computers” held to a higher standard? Or do they hold themselves to one? Why or why not?

The women profiled were high-achieving people. I think they expected a lot of themselves because their families expected a lot of them. No doubt the had to prove themselves every day to their white superiors, and they realized they were blazing a trail to be followed by others. I think they felt a responsibility to those who would come after them to be sure the doors they opened stayed open.
