I've heard nothing but good things about this book. Though I know several members of the group have already read it. I hope there will still be a couple of you joining me.
im in...ive heard nothing but good things about this book as well...I checked it out from the library & haven't had the chance to read it yet …..guess now I will.
I've previously read it .... 5***** and a ❤I'll pop in later in the discussion as more people get into the book.
Ditto what BC said. Loved it. I listened to the hypnotic, velvet voice of Nicholas Guy Smith and I never wanted it to end (or I wanted it to never end?). I'll follow the discussion.

I’ll be joining you :)
Karen wrote: "And people tell me his Rules of Civility is also good, if not better!"loved that one too
jingles wrote: "I'm still at #91 for the audio and #161 for the ebook."Wow, that's a bummer!
I'm glad my library finally got it and either they got enough copies or I was really lucky I've seen it before other noticed and the big run started so I downloaded it a few minutes ago and I'm looking forward to finally read it.
I'd prefer to read the English original but since it was more than unlikely my library'll get it so I'll be happy I can read it at all - even if it's 'only' the German translation :-)
Now I only hope I'll feel well enough to read it within the next three weeks.

I'm following all of your comments. I read it - actually, listened to it - a while ago so this is like reading it all over again! Who is listening to it? Is Nicholas Guy Smith's voice just not divine? Pure velvet.

I read this book last year and I have truly enjoyed your summary of each section. One thing that impressed me about this book, was the lovely sentences. Several times I would go back and reread a sentence because it was crafted so well. Unfortunately, I read it from the library, so I can't give you any examples.

This was a lovely book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Especially when I embraced the fact that it was not about what was happening outside of the hotel but the transformation of what was happening within it.

**Please use spoilers when posting your comments.
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel's doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.
Brimming with humor, a glittering cast of characters, and one beautifully rendered scene after another, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the count's endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.
