The book, "Hold Tight, Don't Let go" is about a fifteen year old girl named Magdalie and she lives with her aunt, uncle, and cousin in Haiti. Haiti is struck by a terrible earthquake suddenly, and unfortunately Magdalie's aunt ends up passing away from it. Magdalie's cousin Nadine gets a visa to America because of her father and Magdalie is forced to live with her uncle in a tent camp. She has hope that she will make it to America sometime to be with her cousin, but her uncle is not able to work enough and make money for he to get there, and neither is Magdalie. She undergoes many obstacles and complications after the Earthquake. Will she gain the strength or the opportunity to be reunited with her cousin again?? Will her anger at the situation overpower her and stop her from holding onto hope so that her life will return to normal? You'll have to read to find out! I really enjoyed reading this book for a variety of reasons. I enjoy books that keep me guessing and wondering what will happen next. I personally, have never been through any sort of natural disaster, but this book really made me feel for those that live in countries that have to go through them all the time. I think this book will help students not only learn the effects of natural disasters on the environment, but it would help them understand how it effects the people, which is really important!!
