This one's a treat. The focus on this complicated relationship offers marvelous insight into Rodin's personality, late work and complicated life and illuminates the relationship between writers/poets/critics and artists at the turn of the 19th to the 20th centuries. For me an particular and yummy extra was the chance to learn more about Rilke's wife, the sculptor Clara Westhoff, and their friend, the painter Paula Modersohn Becker. Spoiler alert: a lot of the stories end sadly.

Great review! Rodin is one of my most favorite sculptors. Hands down! This looks like a book in which I’m willing to invest my time.
