Though of course I felt for Auggie and everything he went through, I felt really bad for Via. I really thought that she was really overlooked as a family member and daughter. She was so understanding about why, but she was still a child too and deserved more attention than she got.
I also loved how Auggie's classmates ended up rallying around him and accepting him as a human being. I am a teacher and have seen this first hand. It is one of the things I love most about my job.

I enjoyed that the story was from the perspective of several characters. It caught me off guard when it switched narrator for the first time.

What I think it helped to point out was the story was not just about the difficulties that Auggie dealt with, but that each charcter had issues to overcome that were not necessarily as easy to see as Auggies.

The charcater development is the main thing that caught me by surprise - and it was a pleasant surprise!

One thing that you mentioned in another post Vicki that I think was another part of the charcter devlopment (or lack of development) that made this story seem more real is that fact that (view spoiler)[ Julian and his family never came to accept Auggie's differences. Sometime, people just are not able to see around those things and it would have been too perfect if he had. (hide spoiler)]
