Geoff | 2 comments I'll be in NYC this fall, and I'm interested in seeing any landmarks that may still reflect the Manhattan of 'prime' Wolfe ('30s-'50s)...

So I'm going to take a walk down W 35th, but are there any recommendations on extant places to go: a restaurant that was the model for Rusterman's, a newspaper building for the Gazette, etc.?

Starfish | 5 comments Your plan would be the trip of a lifetime! However, Stout moved things around. W 35th at times was where the river actually is. The interior of the Brownstone changed and is often confusing. Even the office safe is on the move. It seems the ambiance and coziness of Wolfe's and Archie's world is tied to the books and DVDs, forever solid, orderly and never disappointing. In short, a place where every Wolfian would like to have squatter rights.
There is a possible exception though, the NYC Library, where Wolfe took refuge in "Christmas Party".
Maybe you would share your experience and findings?

Amy Martin | 1 comments I would put The Mysterious Bookshop in your list. They might have some fun tips since they’re from the city and make a living with all things mysterious.

Geoff | 2 comments Thanks @Starfish, @Amy...

I think I'm going to skim WS Baring-Gould's NW of W35th for some key landmarks since I don't have time to re-read the canon in advance. The Library is a good one, and yes I have Mysterious Bookshop tagged on my map for a visit!

Starfish | 5 comments GEOFF, You could try the Nero Wolfe Society, "The Wolf Pack" at nerowolfe.org. You'll get the official newsletter, but one hopes, also a place to ask about existing Wolfe landmarks in today's NYC. I would consider info from them to be the most factual.
AMI, I am somewhat acquainted with the Mysterious Bookshop through Amazon. I have 3 books edited by Otto Penzler: Christmas at the Mysterious Bookshop, The Big Book of Christmas Mysteries and Bibliomysteries. All short stories and very enjoyable.
