Non-cheesy/cliché books about arranged/plural/marriage of convenience? And ditto about Amish life?

Annaki, not sure if it is what you are looking for, but I remember in A Thousand Splendid Suns part of the story focuses on the relationship between a first and second wives. It is set in Afghanistan. But it is only a part of the story. There is much more than that. A lot more.
I read The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives recently. It's fiction about polygamy in present day Nigeria. Also, not a book, but you could watch You Me Her on Netflix :) (although I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for)
Stay with Me is set in Nigeria, 1980's I think. I enjoyed it and there is a strong focus on polygamy.

I am trying to find well written books with depth to their characters and a really solid storyline, about arranged/ plural/ marriage of convenience.
And I'm also trying to find good books about Amish life.
But looking through various lists on the subjects, they all seem to be very soppy, starry-eyed romances or erotic menage a trois, which is not what I am looking for.
I have read Plain Truth and What the Body Remembers, but they didn't quite hit the mark, so I'm trying to find books that focus more on the everyday life and struggles and development of characters and relationships, not just crime and romance.
I have watched documentaries on the subjects and thought they make excellent basis for books, but just haven't been able to find any.
I remember once reading an article by an Indian woman who had been the second wife in an arranged marriage and how her relationship with the first wife started off really tense and hateful and then over the years developed into a beautiful friendship (true girlpower) and I wished it would have been made into a book.
Any ideas?
