One of the central themes in the story is atonement for one's prior misdeeds. What do you think of the way the individual characters (Celaena, Rowan, Aedion, Ren, Chaol) deal with their past infractions?

The way they all deal is in alignment with who they are. Although they all feel guilty on some level.
I agree Melissa. There feelings about their "sins" and the way they respond to their guilt is very telling.
Celaena more or less went into complete denial and rejected her real identity. Now she seems willing to accept who she really is and this is part of her atonement.
I found Ren's character particularly interesting here with his drowning his guilt. I'm not sure that I like or respect him. He has a long way to go toward proving himself.
