the wall is a high stone wall that separates the villages around sankiju from the temples and inner city. it was built originally to give archers and cannons a clear shot at invaders, but now is mostly just a decoration. many people move their stalls to under the shadow of the wall during the middle of the day in summer, and the homeless hide at its base during winter in the hope that it will keep some snow off them.
