Hey, are you ready to start this one. I'll be travelling for the next 3 weeks so I might make a little slower progress than usually. However, there are some flights and train/bus rides I can use for reading ☺

Hello, yes I´m planning on starting it today. That works for me, I´m a slow reader myself and this heat isn´t helping :)

I´m only on chapter 6, which isn´t far but I´ve been a little busy and tired. Going to try to get more reading done this week though.

My thoughts so far:

(view spoiler)[I really don´t like Guma. I get mad at her and I still don´t know what I think about Xifeng. A bit of an ego, I think. And why do they have to be mean to Ning..
And what is all this with the snake inside her and the visions? (hide spoiler)]

I also just finished chapter 6 today and I basically agree with everything you said.

(view spoiler)[ I don't like Guma. She makes me angry and I also don't get why they're treating Ning so badly. I get that Xifeng might be jealous but she probably also knows that Ning is really not a threat to her when it comes to Wei. And I was wondering about the snake and the visions, too. Obviously Guma knows something about it but she's not sharing whatever she knows with Xifeng. And why was she so alarmed when Xifeng resited that love poem? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Yes, and why can´t she tell what it is? Good or bad? Feels like it could be a bad thing but not sure. And now I guess we´ll never know, until it reveals itself. Good question... (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 16

I'm still not sure (view spoiler)[ whether I like Xifeng or not. It's a bit annoying how she obsesses about her looks and the way she's treating Wei is terrible. I get that it's the evil half of her or the monster or whatever it is that lurks inside her that probably makes her act the way she does, but still I'm glad Wei left. He deserves better.

Who do you think is the other "her" the demon queen talked about? It could be Akira or Ning 😁 But Ning might also reconnect with Wei now that Wei is available again. I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of Wei yet. And the same goes for guma. (hide spoiler)]

Had a 5 hour train ride yesterday so I'm finally making progress ☺ Now I just finished chapter 25.

I can't help it but (view spoiler)[ I find Xifeng a bit selfish and shallow. I guess it's because she finds her looks so important and she seems to be jealous of everybody who has it seemingly better than her. On the other hand, I like that she has a dark side. It makes her more interesting.

I kind of thought Xifeng might marry the crown prince and become empress that way but now that the present empress is pregnant things get more complicated. I wonder if she'll finally get the daughter she yearns for.

I don't like lady Sun at all but somehow I don't think she is the fool. It would be too obvious. (hide spoiler)]

I haven´t read a thing the past couple of days so i´ll have to catch up to you as soon as I can.

Sorry for the late answer. I read to almost chapter 16 a week ago but I haven´t gotten longer than that. I didn´t feel like reading when I was away but I will try tomorrow again. I´m not sure what I think of this book, I´m not that hooked to it as I hoped I would..

No problem! I've also travelled a lot and have been quite busy. Also I'm visiting my sister who's doing her internship in this publishing company so I've been trying to read the books she's been working on. Tomorrow I'll have a five-hour train ride ahead of me and then the day after I'll be flying to Europe so I will probably continue reading this on those trips. But I get what you mean...somehow I haven't really got as hooked to the story as I thought!

I just read your thoughts on the book that far and I (view spoiler)[ didn´t get to the part where he left but good for him, really. She seems to care for him but not as much as she should because of her grandmother and the life she could get. I wonder though if Wei will be in her life somehow, if he´s a soldier at the palace or no..

I finished this but I'm still hapoy to read your thoughts if you want to write as you go on ☺ I have kind of contradictory feelings about this book.
(view spoiler)[ I usually like dark books where love does not win and ruthless characters are usually my favorites. So, this was just the kind of book I should have loved and Xifeng was just the type of character I should have liked. Despite that I wasn't so thrilled about it for some reason.

Like I said earlier, I did like it that Xifeng had a dark side and I also liked witnessing her transformation into the evil queen. I guess she was just too obsessed about her looks and too selfish for my taste. However, the ending caught my interest because Jade is obviously supposed be Snow White so now I'm wondering if the second book will be written from her point of view. Plus I'm interested in seeing how cruelly Xifeng will rule the kingdom.
When it comes to Guma..I thought maybe she was Xifeng's mother. It was something she said when Xifeng left her..but I can't remember what. Anyway, I wasn't that surprised when I found out. About Wei..I still have a feeling we'll see him again. Maybe he'll reappear as the Huntsman 😁 And yeah...I liked the Far East type of setting. (hide spoiler)]

I´ve read your thoughts and(view spoiler)[I like the setting too, that was mostly why I kept reading. I still don´t like or care for Xifeng but their were times when I could have but then she said something or did. About Kang I was wondering if he was the helper but not that dark thing.
I didn´t even think about Jade in that way at all and wasn´t interested in the next book but but now I am a little. It can definitely be that way.
