Chapter 2 - a red book

I am currently reading this book. And each chapter titled refers to something that occurs within that chapter. I think I’m missing something bc I’m perplexed about how chapter 2 fits- what is the red book it refers to or what symbolism is it referring to if any? Please help!!!
