I'm looking forward to reading this. I was able to put it on hold at the local library, and should be able to pick it up tomorrow. ^_^

Lora (lorabanora) This is a great book. I read several of the stories out loud for my kids. I love story telling that lends itself to the ear.

Haven't been able to pick this up at the library yet. My van broke down. :( Hopefully tomorrow.

Yes! I adored that one!

I finally managed to get the book on Friday. I've only read the first four stories so far, but I liked them all. "Guaranteed Pure" is my favorite of the four.

Lora (lorabanora) I love Irish humor, I guess because it reminds me of my grandmother. I also love the way it reminds me of Jewish humor- the mix of suffering and humor all rolled into one.
One of my favorite stories in this collection is "You're on Next Sunday"- I think I got the title right. Just so funny in its absurdities- and how accepting the characters are of such absurdities. That added an extra layer to the humor.
"Guaranteed Pure" reminded me of the old days of reading Patrick McManus.
"Fred Rimble" is a story that showed up in my daughter's high school reading course. We loved it (how often can you say that about HS lit?) and we ended up getting this book.

Some questions to add to the pot: Which character do you most relate to and why?
Which character(s) did you dislike and why?

Monica LaSalle (MonicaReadsAlot) | 173 comments For me it's Dinny. Take this from page 48 "As ever, Dinny Colman was inclined to dawdle." He was trying to be hang around to be privy to an oncoming conflict - that's the curiosity of a writer!

Jimmy Bowen from the story "Under the Sycamore tree" is another fav!
