Excited to reread this novel! One of my favorites. The movie adaptation with Christopher Walken is one of my favorites, even if it has not aged gracefully.

In half way through. I can't help comparing the book to the movie. I found some elements missing from the movie. Don't get me wrong I really liked the movie but as always the book is better.

I always liked this one. I can’t wait to read it again. It’s been a long time.

Some of us think that this is one of King's very best love stories. It would be nice to know what you think, especially if this is your first time through.

I admire Stephen King as a captivator. I take grasp to the settings of the stories and how they enfold and reemerge and break free into reality. I am on page 11 of Dead Zone, sincere so far, thriller unravels.

While I can't say this is my favorite, I can say I think it is his best written novel. It's plotted beautifully despite his usual abandonment of plot. I love his fly by the seat of your pants writing, but this is fantastic even though it's different for him.

You are so right, Linda. For this story, I watched the movie when I was younger before reading the book. I was blown away by the book.

This is one of my favorites too when I read it all those years ago. I'm excited to read it again. Probably will start in a couple of days.

July's Books are still showing up under the ‘currently reading’ instead of The Dead Zone.

Have started reading. Came across the number 19 in the book!

I've only read this book once but I thought it was a compelling and tightly wound novel. I should re-read it soon. How is everyone finding it?

I agree, Kandice. This plot is brilliant, and even though King says he doesn't believe in plot, the structure is strong with such a powerful drive to the conclusion that it's hard to put the book down. In On Writing King talks about how very proud he is of The Dead Zone. But again, I thought the love story was especially touching. King has a real talent for building relationships I care about and want to endure. (view spoiler)[Of course they almost never do. (hide spoiler)]

To be honest, I loved this book a lot. I am sure that will be apparent in my review, but Uncle Stephie did so many things right in this one. Luv ya Johnny.

Nick, I think that spoiler you hid is one of the reasons I love him so much. That's more real to me than happy endings.

Happy ending ? Sai King has almost as many unhappy endings as he does happy or should I say not so sad ending.

A mention of Jerusalem’s Lot.

This is the third book (since starting from book 1) of the group reads with mention of a textile mill. Even an episode of Castle Rock mentioned a textile mill.

I always liked this book. I always liked those twist kind of endings. Like time travel...did going back in time to fix the future actually cause the future you’re trying to fix?

Finished the book last night. I love the ending.

(You know, from the eight books we've read so far, I think the endings are good, except for The Stand.)

I’m currently on page 24 of The Dead Zone. This is my first time reading this one and I love how Steven King books have a way of making me feel nostalgic even though I didn’t grow up in the 70s. Anyone else get what I’m saying?

Working through a re-read of this one and I'm around 25-30% done. Loving it so far, its crazy to me how much King can just hook me in.

Tim that is the secret of his writing he hooks us all.

There was a reference to Carrie in this book, haha.

I don’t think The Outsider counts in the numbering of books because those are “2nd time around books” and The Outsider was a first time the group read it.

Oh, I see. So what about the coming up book ELEVATION that is listed as the Nov. selection?

It just won’t be numbered. The second round books have their own thread and are numbered. The new books are in a different group reads thread. I am sure Elevation will be the November book but won’t have a number.

I know I started with ANNIHILATION. Then maybe THE DEEP?

Your best bet is to go to the group bookshelf and sort by date read. Then look at the shelves column to see if it is labeled as a group-read:

I really wanted to read this one with you all, but life and Uni caught up with me =/

Finished my re-read and so happy I did. This is one of my favorite SK novels. I do picture scenes from the movie when reading it. Really love it.

I'm behind everyone, because I just finished re-reading the Dark Tower series and so just started The Dead Zone a few days ago. I thought I had read it before, but either it was a LONG time ago, or else watching the movie and other adaptations made me THINK I'd read it, because it's feeling pretty new. I'm enjoying it immensely. I think I feel almost as much empathy for poor Herb as I do for anyone else in the story, so far. I'm only to the point where Johnny is contemplating the doc's advice about his abilities.

I loved this one. I really felt for these characters. This story made me think about comas though, and what I would do if a loved one was in a coma for years.

One of my favorites too. Great love story.

John Smith is my big King crush, right behind Roland.

And Sarh Bracknell is mine, right behind Susan Norton and Susan Delgato.

I thought I'd read this before but it turns out I'd only started it. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by James Franco and he did a phenomenal job (didn't hurt he's my celebrity crush. Lol). I really enjoyed this tale and truly felt the characters. But it made me so sad as well when the inevitability of what was happening to Johnny became apparent. I wish I would have gotten more from Johnny's mother, I felt a disconnect there for some reason, and I think having more sympathy for her would have made this a richer story for me.
