Whilst ushered through hallways I can’t think of anything except: Did I hack this dude? I don’t think I hacked him. I didn’t, did I? When did I hack this guy?
I get ushered into a room. “Did you call my school?” I ask no one in particular. “I can’t do extra curricular if I don’t keep up my attendance.”
No response.
“You know, usually a conversation has two talking parties.”
When there’s still no response I start cheering. “Go! Go Par-rots. Go, Go! Go Par-rots.”
I stop cheering when I’m ushered into a room. It’s nothing like the office I met Mr Wortham in. It’s like those FBI interrogation rooms you see on TV.
“Now, Miss Reynolds, why don’t you start explaining how you got in?”
“How I got in… Where?”
“How you got into the system.”
“What system?”
Mr Wortham sighs. “Why don’t you stop playing, and just tell me?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
This goes on, and on until Mr Wortham eventually gives up. For 5 minutes. Then he continues to ask the same questions over and over again. “How did you get in? Where did you get the access? Why didn’t you hide the fact that it was you?”
For the last time, it wasn’t me! I’m just a cheerleader from Landgate. Why are you questioning me?
I hadn’t intended on signing it, but I was too tired to think, and it was the first language I’d learned.
“Ms Reynolds, I don’t think I got that last part. Would you be so kind as to repeat yourself? This time using English?”
I am using English, moron. I am signing, but it’s English.
Mr Wortham looks at Right suit, or Left suit. I don’t care. But I do care about what he says. “Will you please call for Mr Amos?”
Amos? He did not just say Amos, did he? Please don’t tell me he just said Amos.
But he did. Because the door opened, and in walked Amos Hiram. My uncle.

“You called?” Amos said.
“Ah, Mr Amos, thank you for coming. We have a little communication problem here with Miss Reynolds.”
Amos looks at my direction.
Judas. Why are you working for the other side?
Gwen, you may not like me, but I’m still your uncle. Stop nagging and follow my lead.
I glare at Amos. Fine. Just get me out of here.
“She’s ready to co-operate.” Amos tells Mr Wortham.
“Good. Now, Miss Reynolds, how did you get the prototype?”
What prototype? I sign. I don’t know what you’re talking about.
“I got it from my teacher at school” Amos translates. “He told me it was an extra credit project.”
“Which teacher?”
I like blue. It’s a nice colour.
“Mr Xavier. ICT.”
Mr Wortham turns to the suits again. “Go check it out.” Then he turns back to me. “How did you get in?”
If x equals the square root of a, and y equals the square root of b, what does c equal?
“I used my software to crack the outer shell, then I rewrote the security to give myself author rights. It wasn’t hard.”
“And then what?”
How do you know all this, Amos? It sounds almost like…
“Then I broke down the system and planted the seed.”
Amos. Why are you saying that? Why are you not getting me out?
“I wanted to show you that your systems weren’t fail proof. I want to go now.”
“You want to go?” Wortham asks. “Well, Miss Reynolds, then the two of us have a little problem, don’t we? Because I can’t let you go. Not when you know the secrets of our new system.”
I am getting you out. Amos signs to me when Wortham’s back is to him. Ask for a phone call. Speak and ask for a phone call.
Confused I say what Amos tells me to say. “I want a phone call.”
Wortham sighs “OK. Stay here. I’ll get you a phone.” Wortham looks at the suits. “Stephen, stay here. Mitch, come with me.”
As Wortham and Right suit, or Mitch, leave the room, Amos sits down, and I look up at him.
You look horrible. Like a cheerleader that didn’t get the new Prada bag before other people did.
Shut up. I’m tired of this idiot not understanding that I didn’t hack him. Now, what’s your plan?
When you get that phone, it’ll probably be tapped. That doesn’t matter, because you’ll just type *315* before you call Jeffrey. Tell him you’re in town, and then ask him to meet you for coffee.
Jeffrey? Your brilliant plan is Jeffrey? I get the feeling Jeffrey is the one that dragged me into this mess!
Jeffrey didn’t. And I will tell you who did when you’re back home. Trust me, OK?
I don't trust you, but you’re my only chance. So let’s do this.
