Discuss the characters here

Richard (rsquaredreads) | 178 comments I do this from the app, so I can’t do that cool spoiler coding, so this is your spoiler warning:

Seth and Gudmund?! I never saw that coming. Just wow. That definitely gives this already perplexing book an intriguing twist.

I saw this coming, but it was because I saw the shelves people were filing this book on. Those shelves can be a spoiler in and of itself (view spoiler)

Richard (rsquaredreads) | 178 comments That would make sense. I wondered when Gudmund kept calling him Sethy and the scene at practice. At this point, I’m not sure how I feel about Seth or any of the characters yet. There’s still some missing pieces to them that keeps me from being able to decide where I stand.

Richard (rsquaredreads) | 178 comments I absolutely loathed Seth until probably the last 10% of the book. A well-developed character, but he was so egocentric and thoughtless. Regine was barely a blip on my radar other than to be a foil to Seth. Tomasz was asking the right questions, but I kept picturing this clingy little brother. You know, the one your mom makes you take with you to hang with your friends even though you don’t want to? But maybe that was point. He wasn’t supposed to be taken credibly. Overall, I enjoyed that the characters weren’t your stereotypical dystopian teenagers.

Your observations are interesting - I did not loathe Seth, but I can see where one might feel that.

I felt a little more strongly about Regine's importance than you did.

I always felt kinda bad for Tomasz.

But, as you said, a great non-sterotypcal portrayal of all of them.
