I'm going to have to read that - I LOVE octopus, they are ridiculously smart and sassy to boot. This one, in Germany, got annoyed at the lights that switched on each morning...https://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...

Thank you - I fell to temptation and bought the rest of the collection too, though this looks like the most (if not only) Solarpunk entry among them.

And Lately, The Sun, our February book of the month, is on sale until January 1st through Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...
The publisher has told me it’s a 75% coupon that applies at checkout.

message 19: by Joelle.P.S (new)

Joelle.P.S | 3 comments Is $6.49 the discount price, or do we need a coupon code?

message 20: by Lena (new)

Lena | 1412 comments Mod
Judging from comparison to the Amazon price that is not the discount. The publisher said the discount happened automatically at checkout.

message 21: by Kalin (new)

Kalin (kalein) | 136 comments I just tried buying it, but the checkout price is still $6.49. :?

message 22: by Fiona (new)

Fiona Knight (msnoctiluca) | 621 comments Mod
I wonder if that's a regional issue? When I go to the link Lena posted, the price automatically adjusts down and I get the message: "Use the code SEY75 at checkout for 75% off during our site-wide promotion!"
Maybe try that code manually - it might work where the automatic reduction isn't?

Fiona Knight (msnoctiluca) | 621 comments Mod
I can also gift it with the coupon, so do message me if you still have issues at all - we can give that a shot :)

message 24: by Joelle.P.S (new)

Joelle.P.S | 3 comments Ah ha! I was using a mini-browser on a phone earlier. Now on my laptop I see the message about using the SEY75 code at checkout. Mission accomplished! Thanks for your help. :-D

message 25: by Kalin (new)

Kalin (kalein) | 136 comments Thank you both! When I open the link now, I see the discount too; maybe earlier Smashwords hadn't turned it on yet.

We have a previous group read on this one, too, and new comments are always welcome! :)

Johannes Johns (johannesjohns) | 58 comments Cities of Light: A Collection of Solar Futures : Stories by: Paolo Bacigalupi, S.B. Divya, Andrew Dana Hudson, Deji Bryce Olukotun. Looks like it's a free download.

"Cities of Light features stories, essays, and art imagining solar futures in four U.S. cities: Chicago, Illinois; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Portland, Oregon; and San Antonio, Texas... exploring how the transition to solar energy will transform cities; catalyze revolutions in politics, governance, and culture; and create diverse futures for human communities... emphasizes that the design of solar energy matters in shaping the future of urban communities and considers how each city’s geographic and social features, along with the arc of its particular local history, create unique challenges and opportunities as we work collectively to design more equitable energy futures."

This has been impossible to save on my kindle without special apps or giving my email and yet I’m quite excited about it as it features stories in San Antonio! If the links last I might read it online. We should put it up for the next group read!

Mir | 36 comments I noticed Bright Green Futures: 2024 is free on Amazon. Though I'd pop it here in case anyone sees despite this group being, er, in hibernation?

message 32: by Rossdavidh (new)

Rossdavidh | 69 comments I think it's in "hibernation" more due to lack of material, than to lack of interest. Shall we give this a try?

Kalin (kalein) | 136 comments Hey everyone!

Starting this year, I migrated from GR to StoryGraph. However, you can still find my reviews of solarpunk (and positive futures) on the Human Library forum:

https://choveshkata.net/forum/viewtop...

This particular one is about And Lately, the Sun: Speculative Fictions for a Climate-thrashed World, which turned out to be surprisingly positive.

(Also, apologies for my long silence. I was going through the longest low phase of my bipolar yet. :( )
