Rowan rejects Aelin's advances and hurts her deeply. Why did he do this and what do you think of the developments in their relationship?

The development of their relationship was expected. Aelin is finally with her own kind and respected. I think Rowan rejected her for her own safety. Them being together like that may have distracted Aelin from what needed to be done.

To my mind, Rowan rejected her because he is afraid to love and lose again. Aelin's future is very uncertain at this time and if she were killed, it would devastate him. He seems to have come to terms with this fear though.

I agree that some of it had to do with Rowan protecting himself as well.
