Coren was in her cell, lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She took in a deep breath and shivered. She didn't think it was cold down here but maybe she was just scared about this whole thing. Her mom had died just a few days ago and Coren had been moved into her room. She sat up and looked at the teddy bear next to her. 'Why am I left?' She asked her dead brother's teddy bear. She looked around the room and leaned up against the wall. "This place is so dull and lame." She said outloud to no one in general.
She looked him in the face. "Don't dear me." She said. "You probably don't give a crap about me so therefore I am not your dear. More like..." She paused for a moment. "More like a..a.. I can't come up with an analogy right now but you get the point."
She gritted her teeth and mumbled "I will never be your dear. I know I don't give a crap about you." She shook her head and her hair went back in front of her neck. "And don't call me beautiful."
She looked at his eyes trying to make her look cool but failed. "You can call me Coren." She told him simply. "I don't care if you are the prince. This is my cell, so it's practically my house since I'm never getting out. Therefore you call me what I want you to."
She gritted her teeth but didn't flinch. She was used to pain, when all of the kids at the playground used to push her off of the playground and onto the woodchips or when they threw rocks at her when she was bad at a sport. She would come home with bruises and cuts and tell her mom she had tripped. "Everyday you trip?" Her mom always asked her. "Yes" she would answer softly. She wouldn't tell her mom because she wanted to fight their own battles. 'Why am I so stupid?' She asked herself and she sat there being devoured.
She held the napkin and eyes the water and bread cautiously. 'Obviously he wouldn't try to kill me. He wants my blood but still...' She thought. "Thanks." She said taking the water but only taking a small sip. She took a nibble of the bread and looked and him. "I am a rude child, just to let you know. So, what you saw earlier, is usually normal. Just sayin' "
"Ok" she said. "But don't expect me to like them." She took another small bite of the bread. "You can leave now." She told him in her normal voice.
Coren got up from her bed and rubbed her neck where he bit her. Some blood came off but not much. 'Drat these vampires.' She thought. She felt around in her pockets and brought out a bobby pin and went to the door. She placed the pin in the lock and wiggles it around until she heard a click. She paused to see if anyone heard. No one did. Or, no one as she could tell. She took the lock off, opened the door and snuck out, thankful that they hadn't made her change and that she was still in her all black suit.
