This is a link to the newest TOR bookclub selection. I post this because we have so many new members I need to tell everyone again. Give TOR your email and suffer(?) receiving their emails. It's worth it because you will get at least one free book a month.

Actually, I like their emails. There's another signup to get kewl articles from TOR. Surf around their site and they will ask you to sign up.

This particular giveaway is the first book of an older series, offered because a new one is coming out soon. So they want you to read this one and then buy the new one. Marketing. --sigh-- Can't live with it, can't be in touch with the world without it.

The Black Company is an early example of grimdark fantasy. When I've read it in the mid-90s I was quite impressed by the story where protagonists are not 'good guys'. I have to re-read it to see if it still resonate with me

Victor Thanks Kateblue. Missed the Black Company deal, but got lucky about a month ago and picked up the omnibus edition of the first three novels for like 3 bucks.

I joined tor anyway, and got the freebie novellas - looks like some good ones in there, including Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. I might have to read that one first in anticipation of our October and November reads!

I've read Every Heart a Doorway and it is very good, tho YA. The other two in the group are ok, but not as good as Every Heart.

Sidenote
Every Heart a Doorway won both Hugo and Nebula for best novella, so it is even relevant to our group [even if we haven't officially widened our scope beyond novels]
