One of my favourite bits of hilarity; " Free-form jigging, communal shapes in the air; Dancing was easy!...YMCA! YMCA! Arms in the air, mimicking the letters - what a marvelous idea! Who knew that dancing could be so logical? ...From my limited exposure to popular music, people did seem to sing about umbrellas and fire-starting and Emily Bronte novels, so, I supposed, why not a gender-and faith-based youth organization?” Oh Eleanor I love you.
I like how the story develop, the people she meet up to bring out the best of her. I said before the story is funny but it's also gloomy. Maybe because what happened in the past....am really like to go deeper on the mum characters . Why Eleonor was in foster family , did I missed something last night while reading because am so sleepy but decided to keep reading while watching CCN. I tried to be kind, I tried to take care but that was before, I had done such thing in the past. Why she stop doing this..?
I don't appreciate her colleagues at all. They are the definition of rude and mean.
I get the feeling that the musician is going to disappoint her something big in the end.
He seems rude and proud.
I like the fact that she's realizing there is a lot more the world is offering her than what she settled for for all those years. She's finally socializing :)

Is She disappointed by Raymond? Either she is, or she's completely indifferent to it. I enjoyed seeing Eleanor get out of her comfort zone even if it's just for the musician. It's god to have her socialising a bit and maintaining herself. And she deserved a promotion! She so deserved it. There hasn't been much about her Mummy lately and I'm looking forward to how their next conversation would go. I feel like she'll eventually stop talking to her, as she realises that she doesn't really have to talk to ehr every week and as she grows less feaful of her.
Ofcourse she didn't deserve a boyfriend who hurt her, no one deserves that, and she is right to think that but I don't agree on living alone. We all want someone even if we don't need them. What's life all alone? It can be fun being alone too but you gotta throw in some change every once in a while too. Glad to see Eleanor doing that.

I am liking how sociable she is coming, she is finally coming out of her comfort zone. I just hope she does stop fearing her mother. She is so rude and cruel! No one deserves that treatment
And I agree, her colleagues are so rude to her. I really hope things tell out well for her

Read the first 20 chapters today. It's going to be a fast read (though I have to look up quite a few of the words lol). Eleanor's thoughts often make me laugh, but there are quite some moments of sadness too... :'(

I don't completely agree with you on the second part Aqsa. Yes, maybe we all want someone, but is it because we want to ourselves, or because of what society thinks is "normal"? How difficult is it to differentiate between your own needs and believes and those which you have internalised (as Eleanor states about some of her mummy's believes)? I believe that it should be one's own choice how one leads his or her life instead of what friends, family, society thinks is best/how it should be, and without being judged by those friends/family/society. Same goes for having children.
@Susy
What I meant was about human needs rather than the needs and believes of the society.
Humans aren't usually very good at staying alone. One or another kind of human interaction is usually good for us. And every one of us eventually needs it. No matter how good we are at living alone. Alone doesn't have to mean that just living alone in a house or something. I guess it means being truly alone with no friends and no significant interaction with others.
It's sometimes good to be in one's own company but evey once in a while we all ache for someone to be there. I guess it's human nature. Society doesn't count much especially for me. One must have choices and society shouldn't be the deciding factor :)

Ah yes, I agree, (positive!) social interactions/human connection is important. Not only as adults but also as a child; you see the detrimental effects on a child's development when there isn't (enough) positive interaction with other human beings.
Sorry, I misunderstood your comment because of the "living alone" part.
