Davis has written many Civil War books. In particular, I liked his bio of John C. Breckinridge, Breckinridge: Statesman, Soldier, Symbol
I saw both of those today at Half-Priced Books... there were two Davis Bios and that one caught my eye. The Breckinridge bio surprised me... but then I realized that it shouldn't have. Breckinridge was a major player, just constantly on the wrong side.
I haven't read it yet but how about Embattled Rebel: Jefferson Davis as Commander in Chief by James M. McPherson. It has been on my shelf for a few years.
