This month we're learning some fun facts about our Lions and Kangaroos.
1. Lion
Complete one of the following tasks.
a. Lions in the wild nearly all live in Africa.
Read a book set in Africa – or – with a picture of a lion on the cover. (show cover)
b. Lions are the most social of all big cats and live together in “prides” of about 15 animals.
Read a book with a 1 or 5 in its publication date. (ex, 08/15/2006, 1/1/2015, or 1/26/2005)
c. Even though the lion is referred to as the “king of the jungle,” it actually lives in grasslands and plains.
Read a book with a king as a main character - or - with a setting in the jungle.
2. Kargaroo
Complete one of the following tasks.
a. Kangaroos are the only large animals to use hopping to travel.
Read a book whose cover shows an animal in motion: walking, running, or hopping. (show cover)
b. Kangaroos live and travel in organized groups called “mobs”.
Read a book whose author’s first and last names start with one of the letters in “mobs”.
c. Baby kangaroos or “joeys” live in their mother’s pouches until they are 8 months to 1 year old.
Read a book whose main character has a baby or toddler aged from birth to 1 year old.
2.3 (Tessa's task) Back to School
Read two books
1. Read a book with at least one scene set in a school (any level up to and including college/university)
2. Read a book whose author’s first and last initial are in: TEACHER (ignore middle initials, if present). Letters may be used only as often as they appear in target word.
2.4 (Tessa's task) September Author Birthdays
Read two books, one book by each of two of these authors who celebrate birthdays in September.
