I stopped at 71 today.. feeling better but wrung out from yesterday (gotta work tonight too, yay). Slow starting so far but still interested to see where it goes for now.

Alright, I'll catch up over the next 24 hours.

I just LOVE this book (and the whole series). I've read it at least four times, but not in the last six years, not since I joined GR in August 2012, so I'm really reveling in it and trying to pace myself by only reading a chapter at a time and discussing what I've read in each chapter. Also, that way I probably won't completely catch up to the two of you and therefore can't accidentally spoil anything.

First chapter, things that made me laugh:

A non fiction author named Millon De Floss
The idea that criminal gangs are dealing in the lucrative literary market instead of drugs or gambling - stealing and selling Samuel Johnson first editions, a flagrantly unrealistic Cardenio etc. - necessitating the police to create a division to deal with literary crime
Some confusion over how the Duke of Wellington died, who exactly won at Waterloo, and whether King Harold always died during the Battle of Hastings
The Toad News Network
Border skirmishes with the Socialist Republic of Wales
A surrealist artist murdered by a gang of radical French impressionists

Chapter Two, things that made me laugh:

A tie seller expounding on two possible theories for how time works if you assume that time travel is possible
Learning about where Dickens wrote Martin Chuzzlewit was more interesting than funny
The flaw in the bullet proof glass, the first odd occurrence - oh to think of all the places this first discovery leads Thursday
Discussing who could pull off a literary crime of this magnitude like it's the heist of the crown jewels from an Oceans sequel.

Also, if either of you are having trouble with some of the more obscure references I recommend this website which has page by page notes for anything a non-English person might not understand. http://www.jasperfforde.com/reader/re...
