Hi! My name is Melissa and I love to read. I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't love books. When I was a kid we lived within walking distance of the public library and my mom used to have to limit the number of books my sister and I could check out each month or we would bring home half the library. Last year I set myself a goal or reading 100 books and I think I ended at 107. I haven't set a goal for this year, but I've been trying to keep track of what I read and so far I think I'm in the mid 60 range or so. I'm not out to set any records or anything, I just love to read.

So this is a little about me. I can't wait to get to know some new people! Feel free to introduce yourself!

Ronesa Aveela (aveela) | 5 comments Hi, Ronesa Aveela is a collaborative name for two writers: Anelia Samovila and Rebecca Carter. We have written our first novel, "Mystical Emona: Soul's Journey." It is a romantic fantasy set in a village on the Black Sea. It is a love story between a human and a samodiva (a type of nymph. You many know the term "veela" better as this is what was used in the Harry Potter novels.) The story is the brainchild of Anelia. She visited Emona in 1998 and fell in love with the village. The story includes the culture, beliefs, and rituals that have been practiced in Bulgaria since the ancient Thracian times.

David Corner | 33 comments Hello All,

Just saying hi to the group, e-books are great, remember going to libraries and them not having the book you wanted, lol.

Hi David! My kindle is probably one of the best gifts I've ever gotten. I can always carry a book with me no matter where I am and I don't have to fight with my husband for space on the already overflowing book shelf!

David Corner | 33 comments Hi Melissa

Yes that's right, don't have to have lots of bookshelves and saves any dusting of the shelves, lol.

I like the internet archive, you can get old e-books for free on PDF or EPUB. Have a look at it Melissa if you haven't done already, great web site.

Ronesa Aveela (aveela) | 5 comments Hi, I'm ready to start reading your book club selections now. How does this work? Do we just select one of the books you have as book of the month, then start a discussion in the thread you create for that book? I don't see much in the way of discussion, so it made me wonder how this works. Thanks.

message 8: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 93 comments Mod
Hi Ronesa,

You can choose how many of the selected books you want to read, read one, read both, it's all up to you.

As far as discussion, that's up to you also. I always have plans to discuss the books after I've read them, but then I read so many other books by the end of the month I forget the finer details.

Any one can feel free to start a discussion on the books at any time. Maybe if a discussion isn't already started when I finish I will go ahead and start one before I start reading other books.

A book a day would be so awesome to do! Good luck with that! I wish I had the time to read a book a day. Part of my problem is that sometimes I'm so into the book I'm reading that it's hard to go right into another book, especially if I was reading a series.

I haven't been quite reading a book a day, but I've reviewed around 100 since August. :) Maybe if I didn't have to work, too.

Good luck with your goal. I'm cheering you on. :)

This is the first I've heard of Overdrive, and it sounds awesome. Unfortunately my local library doesn't participate.

Matt Doyle (mattdoyle) Hi all,
Thought I'd join up and see how this group is. I only recently nabbed a Kindle (an old one at that) and have also recently started publishing on Kindle.

Hi Matt! Glad to have you here. Any Kindle is better than no Kindle ;) Let us know about what you publish and you could see your book(s) listed as one of our monthly reads. I try to feature a member's book every month.

Samantha Britt (samanthabritt) | 4 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Samantha and I absolutely LOVE Kindle Unlimited! It's so great for finding books I otherwise wouldn't read. I recently published my first novel and enrolled it in Kindle Unlimited for readers like me :)

Happy reading everyone!
Samantha

Tess Garfield (tessmgarfield) | 5 comments Hi, I just discovered that Goodreads has social groups, still finding my way around. I did join the librarians group when I was setting up my author page, not knowing it was a group, so this is my first official group membership!

I enrolled my recently published novels in KU, and am now starting to use my Kindle to read more, supporting other authors who took a risk to reach KU readers.

I look forward to sharing reviews with you.
Tess

Hi Samantha and Tess. We are excited to have both of you here. I really look forward to reading both of your works.

message 23: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Ellis | 3 comments Hi!

I'm Hannah! I love to read (and also write) but with two small kids I don't get as much chance to read as I would like. However I recently downloaded the kindle app to my phone and it's been pretty life changing... I'm just getting a lot of dirty looks from the other mums at the playground because I just sit looking at my phone! But it's so great to always have my book in my pocket!

I also recently self published my novel 'Friends Like These' which is available on KU. I would love it if you picked it as a book of the month sometime.

Look forward to chatting with you.

Troy Williams (MyBipolarLife) | 1 comments Hello to all my bibliophile friends,

I'm a fanatical voracious seeker of knowledge who is addicted to books, the Internet and interesting correspondence on almost anything having to do with ancient and modern culture and the human condition. It's my only regret that I only have a limited amount of time on earth to learn everything I'm curious about consuming. Have a peaceful and compassionate day.

Troy

All the best,

Hi,
My name is Christine. I have two Kindles, an old original my daughter bought me for Christmas one year, best gift ever. I just bought myself a new one with touchscreen, backlight, wifi and 3G because my old one is full to bursting with books. I had to join KU because I was spending a fortune on ebooks.

Looking forward to some recommendations. I like romance, sci-fi and crime novels best.

Peter (pdinuk) | 5 comments Hello, I'm Peter, living in the UK. I have a ton of books on my Kindle and never enough time to catch up with them. I've been busy in the last few months as my wife's technical assistant for her new nonfiction book. It's on KU, so I'll add it in the suggestions area.

Dave Johnston (sixtyminutereads) | 5 comments I'd recommend my own book (haha)

Seriously though, you might just like it, its available on Kindle Unlimited, and only takes 60 minutes to read!

C. | 10 comments Hi, I have also ALWAYS been a library patron since childhood.
I love my Kindles, and always check to see if my library has a book I want to borrow in the Kindle edition and also always check the "I'd like to read this book on Kindle" at Amazon if a book is not yet offered for Kindle.

I hope it's ok, but I do not do Book Club stuff. I want to read what I want, when I want, not by a schedule! I also refuse to read a book that does not even interest me!

message 34: by K.J. (new)

K.J. Simmill (kjsimmill) | 1 comments Hi everyone.
I just wanted to stop by as I am new to this group.
I'm K.J. Simmill, an award winning author of epic fantasy (But I'm not going to shove them in your face, I actually work harder promoting other authors than I do myself) I am a big reviewer/ supporter of Indie works. I read a lot and not only as an official reviewer for Readers' Favorite. I host a blog for reviews which currently shows as having 40k subscribers.
After I have finished my next four reads I am subscribing to KU, and my own books will be available on it shortly. I thought it made sense to join a book club to broaden my options of things I may enjoy reading, but otherwise would not have seen.
I hope you're all having an amazing day, I look forward to reading some of your works :)
