From Tor:

“Fresh off Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Justice League, Henry Cavill is taking on the leading role in a new franchise: He will play Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, Netflix’s television adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy book series. While the adaptation has been in the works for over a year, this casting news is a huge step forward in the series’ development.”

I just watched the series. Well done, I think. Entertaining and true to Witcher canon, characters. Anyone else here catch it?

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 6 comments I watched it and loved it. It rang pretty true to the first book at least. I'm planning to read beyond that one soon.

Randy Harmelink | 825 comments I loved it. My only issue was they could have more easily identified the three different timelines.

Randy Harmelink | 825 comments Oh, and who in their right mind would ever grant the "Law of surprise"?

The timing confusion (parallel stories not in synch) could have been clarified for sure... but the series was good enough, it compels me to watch it all again.... perhaps Im procrastinating something else. Lol

I just finished it and now I really want S2 (which, sadly, we probably won't see before 2021).

Oh, and I'll need to rewatch and check again, but they should've leaned more into the thing where Geralt just calls every horse he acquires "Roach".

Oooh I missed that. I thought Roach was a particular horse.

Yep, like Fafhrd & the Mouser's swords, he has the name that he just applies to whichever one he has at the moment.

message 15: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink | 825 comments Aww. I thought Roach was a magical horse....

But a horse is a horse, of course, of course, ...

In the games, at least, all Roaches are kind of magical in the sense that you can be standing in the middle of a vasty desert with nothing around you but desolation as far as the eye can see, then you can whistle for your horse and he'll come clopping up from just out of your line of sight.

Randy Harmelink | 825 comments I saw this graphic timeline for the series posted on another forum:

https://www.witchernetflix.com/en-gb

I was thinking it covered a far larger amount of time...

C.A. | 67 comments A horrible opening scene. (How deep was that water? Was it two feet deep or twenty? Nevermind we are supposed to overlook it.) Screwy timelines, viewers have to learn the world, the magic, the limits, the names, the titles, the potions, the folklore, the monsters, but oh well, they can handle it. To make sure they are bewildered let's throw the timeline into a meat grinder and see if we can't chop up some of that gristle. No need to trim the fat.

On the bright side, the fight scenes are spectacular. The characters are complex, and the acting is good in general.
The story: It's kind of like, Beowulf walks into a fairy-tale....

The soundtrack is now available.
Love “the song of the white wolf”
And, of course, “toss a coin to your witcher”

I picked up the soundtrack and have listened to, well, about half of it (it's three hours long, give or take). Great stuff!
