For Lavinia, picking one side-effect, I'd pick numbness. I'd say her inability to really comprehend how her actions affect others comes off cold. Making her numb. Even in her reflections on what lead to her circumstances never really come close to true remorse. For Aselin, Hemlocks ability to keep their victim locked in place, slowly suffocating could speak to her reasoning behind turning on Lavinia. Maybe she felt she was rooted in place unable to shine past her Masters light.
