Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments Hi ladies! I’m excited about another round of bingo. Where does everyone live? I’m on the road - hubby and I (+ our two kitties) are traveling around the US in our RV - currently parked in Maine. Right now I have okay WiFi but it’s not always guaranteed, so best if someone else could be our captain.

I’ll be thinking about some team name ideas.

Looking forward to winning R17 with y’all 😁 Go, team, go!

Laura | 1168 comments I'm here!

Steph, that sounds wonderful. As long as you can get wifi as needed to download new books, right? :)

I'm in Southern California. Hubby and I have 6 kids, 6 cats, and 16 (soon to be 23) chickens. We eat eggs a lot!

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments If a series is mentioned in the audiobook series thread, can I read a book from that series for Free Space, even if I'm reading rather than listening? In Death is mentioned, and I'm up to book 45.

Absolutely Laura, you can always read whichever version of a book you want to.

message 11: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments Hi Laura & Lis! Thankfully I have the 3G + wifi Kindle, so I can get my books delivered okay, typically. I have my Kindle packed at the moment, so it's all good.

We just moved from So Cal (Twentynine Palms, about 45m from Palm Springs) a second time. We've lived there twice and love it. We've also lived in Oceanside, which we enjoyed. I just love all parts of Cali.

We switched to a vegan diet (mostly me, hubby is about 80% vegan) Aug 2017 for health benefits. I LOVE cheese and eggs; I cave and eat eggs occasionally, I've found some vegan cheese I like okay.

Lis, I'm a MEGA Pittsburgh Steelers fan, even though I'm from VA (the land of the Redskins ... boo). Sadly, I can't get any TV signal at this campground so I'm missing their first game today :( And, 🤬 because it seems were in OT against the Browns - Crap. Ended in a tie.

Hubby is retired USMC, RVing around US since with our two kitties, no kids. This is our first time in NE and we're really enjoying it. Just visited Canada again today (4th time - all different crossing points) to walk the Hartland Bridge, the longest covered bridge in the world and check out the the world's largest axe, I kid you not. That thing is 49ft tall.

I'm still deciding on my FS book. I typically read it the first week, definitely read & reviewed by second.

Either of y'all interested in being captain?

Team name ideas? I couldn't think of much, but here's what I got: One by One, Bingo Bashers, Lit Chicks, Ravenous Readers, Spine Crackers (don't do that! LOL)

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments Steph, I must admit I’m a bit jealous! My brother & his family moved from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island last November and I’m super jealous of them, as well!

I’m in Riverside. It’s hot right now, but we put up with July -September because the rest of the year is so great. Although, come to think of it, you can probably say something similar about most places. You put up with 3 - 4 nasty months because the rest are worth it. You just have to find the place whose bad you can endure in light of it’s good.

I’m would rather not captain, but will if needed. I’ve captain/co-captain duties in several team games right now.

message 13: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments P. S. - You haven’t really tasted eggs until you’ve had them fresh from the source! The difference in the color of the yolk is so startling. And we don’t get any white eggs. Mostly shades of brown, but we have a few who lay shades of green & blue.

message 14: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments We're loving it. Not having any kids makes it easy for us to stay on the move. We have family and friends on east coast (VA), family and friends on west coast (CA, NM & WA). So we bop around between them and see the sights in between. We've seen a lot, but there's so much more to be seen.

I hear ya! You can really put up with anything when you know it's temporary. :)

No worries, hopefully either Lis or Erin will be interested in wearing the captain cap.

I can't remember if I've ever had eggs that fresh or not. I'm thinking no, but wanna say yes. LOL! One day, I'm sure we will, if we haven't already.

message 15: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments You can probably find some at a local farmer’s market wherever you are the next time you decide to fall off the wagon. :)

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments That's what I was thinking too :)

Lis | 4037 comments 9/8 Checking in! And excited for another round of bingo... I live near Pittsburgh with 2 kids, 4 cats (just added a new calico), a dog and sadly no chickens yet... but I want some. I put hubster and my self on a keto diet and we've been going thru eggs like crazy. Off to find a free space book.

*****************
9/9 I can captain again if no one else wants too. We're in Volleyball season and fall baseball and basketball too. Fun fun! I should be able to keep up. And that tie sucks.

My hubster has lost 20 and I'm down 12 with the first 30 days of keto. I grab eggs from the farmers market when I can, I even have a chicken coop, it's just full of junk that I've pack ratted. Maybe this spring and they should be able to free range since we have a big chunk of land... I even have a gypsy pole we keep for our RVing retired family. :). We did Canada at Niagara Falls a couple of weekends ago, it's cool if you can wait until after dark to catch the lights and fireworks.

message 18: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments I kind of envy you 2 your football season. I'm a baseball fan here, so my fun is winding down for the year. :)

For the free space book, do we have to wait until after the call on Wednesday to start reading, or can we start reading at anytime on Wednesday?

Not my eggs, because I don't have any store bought eggs in the house at the moment. Won't have until production goes down, right as I'm ready to do holiday baking. But the difference really is this startling:

Nice to meet everyone here. I'm Erin, and I live in hot and humid Central Florida. I also have a few cats laying around - they're fun and cuddly reading companions.

I love eggs but also never had farm fresh - now you're having me curious.

message 24: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Sep 10, 2018 05:05PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments Thanks for being captain, Lis! I'm actually glad I wasn't able to watch the game b/c after hearing about it, I would've driven my husband crazy with all my screaming. I am one of those fans - around friends and family, anyway. Least it wasn't a loss.

Sounds like the keto diet is going well for y'all! I'm not losing any weight, but my husband lost a bunch. I have that type of body that holds onto any weight it manages to get no matter what. LOL!

What's a gypsy pole? Hook ups for your RVing fam? Never heard the name.

And, damn, we didn't know they had fireworks and lights on the Canada side of Niagara. Sheesh. Wish we'd known. Guess we'll just have to go back at some point to catch it. :)

Laura, I played softball when I was younger and loved it, but unless I'm watching baseball live at the stadium I don't enjoy it much. My dad's always been a NY Yankee fan and we've seen a couple of their live games when they played in Baltimore.

I'm definitely gonna get us some farm fresh eggs. We stop at every farmer's market near our campgrounds as we move around. We've actually met several local authors out at a couple selling their books.

Hi Erin! :D

I'm sure not 100%, but I'm thinking about one of these for my FS read:
Wild Hunger (Heirs of Chicagoland, #1) by Chloe Neill Box of Frogs (The Fractured Faery, #1) by Helen Harper The Serpent (Immortal Dealers, #1) by Sarah Fine

Can't blame a girl for wondering if she can start her day with Roarke, rather than ending it with him. :)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Not sure on my free space just yet

I will actually be out of town Thursday through Sunday - coming back Sunday. I'm going on a mini vacation with my mom, but can read the Wednesday book during the trip. Plan on some relaxed reading time, just won't be able to log on much besides marking books read.

message 30: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25913 comments Speaking of eggs, we buy our eggs from a local poultry/egg farmer, though not sure how long they'll be able to stay there. Housing development is happening all around that area & all around their farm.

Fresh eggs are amazingly better than store bought, you'll definitely have to try them Steph & everyone else who hasn't yet :)

message 31: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Sep 11, 2018 11:09AM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments I was trying to think of ONEderland team names too, Laura. I like those. I'm easy, so whichever name majority likes, I'm all for. :)

Hope you have a good time with your mom, Erin. Happy Travels!

Hubby said yes, we've had farm fresh eggs in the past. :) I'm sure I loved them. ;)

Some add'l team name ideas:
The Night Owls (I tend to read the most at night these days)
There Can Be Only One
All Booked Up
The Mad Hatters

Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series recently ended with their finale Magic Triumphs, maybe something referencing that series, if y'all are also fans of the series?

Or another series we all love?

Total Surrender (Sin Brothers, #4) by Rebecca Zanetti by Rebecca Zanetti's #4 in her Sin Brothers series will be my military shelf selection... Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments Hey ladies! Long, but fun day spent in New Brunswick, Cananda yesterday and we’re on the move to another campground today.

I’m liking both of those names, maybe Night Owls a teensy bit more, but happy with whichever gets the majority vote.

For this shelf, I’m leaning towards either: Master of Solitude (Mountain Masters & Dark Haven, #8) by Cherise Sinclair or A Soldier's Duty (Theirs Not to Reason Why, #1) by Jean Johnson . I’ll let ya know which I end up reading. And, I’ve still not settled on a FS book yet, so I’ll update once that’s picked as well.

Have fun, Erin!

message 48: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments Completion Post - Free Space

Book: Dark in Death (In Death, #46) by J.D. Robb
Date Read: 9/13
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: Mentioned in the Audiobooks Series thread
Review: As far as the mystery goes, this was not one of my favorite In Death books. As far as the characters and their interactions? Robb hit a homerun there. I love the way she takes characters that appear once in one book, and then works them into subsequent books when you're least expecting it. The only thing I didn't like about this book? The fact that now I'm caught up in the series and have to wait 6 months in between books like everyone else. :(

message 49: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments You aren't caught up, Laura. Book 48 came out at the beginning of the month. :)

message 50: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1168 comments I meant caught up to the new one. I’m just waiting on my local libraries to process in their copies. I’m 2nd on the list. But it’s 47 that just came out. 48 comes out early next year.
