Are you watching The Great American Read or looking at the list of 100 books/ series that have been nominated?

Each weekly episode on PBS from September 18 through October 16 will have an overarching theme, and NPML will be posting a question related to each week's theme here if you wish to join the discussion online.

Upcoming Great American Read happenings at the library:

Now through October 23:
Guess which title will win The Great American Read! Put your guess in the jar by the Great American Read book display. A winner will be drawn from the correct guesses after the season finale on October 23. The prize: a pair of free Newark Museum tickets. Some of the titles New Providence residents have guessed so far are here:

Little Women (Little Women, #1) by Louisa May Alcott Moby-Dick or, The Whale by Herman Melville To Kill a Mockingbird (To Kill a Mockingbird, #1) by Harper Lee Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Tuesday, October 2 from 7 pm to 8 pm
"Book List Bullet Journaling"
Bring your own journal or notebook, and a pen. We'll work on writing out our "to read" or other book lists in bullet journal format. Examples and printables will be available for inspiration. PBS Great American Read stickers will be available if you wish to make a list of the 100 books/series that have been nominated.

Judy | 28 comments I thought The Book Thief was excellent also but my vote went to A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It's hard to have just one winner!!!

i voted for the book thief one day, and the good earth another time.

Helene Langezaal | 31 comments I watched last night's episode. It was the first one I ever watched. Good thing I have it on DVR, now I can watch it again with the book list in hand so I can make notes.

How many episodes are there in "The Great Read" or whatever it's called? I watched the first one and DVR recorded the recent one - but was wondering if it was a repeat.

Sangeeta | 156 comments Just 1 think. I believe that
Tuesday was a repeat of the spring pilot

Marilyn | 143 comments According to the PBS September program booklet, there are more episodes and while they seem same (and I think some aspects are the same) they do cover different books. That's just what it seems like to me...but I have not seen all of the most recent show. My DVR is set to record upcoming episodes.
And, PBS has programs about some of the authors and upcoming is Harper Lee.
