Good luck! That's a mess. Hope you don't get flooded or blown away. We're hoping the World Equestrian Games don't get too messed up, too. Not so much the competitions as the horses & people. All the grooms are housed in big tents, I think.
Good luck. Remember, ATMs do not work without power. Get some emergency cash before the storm hits.

Yes, they are further inland, so maybe won't see as much wind and rain...fingers crossed.

Hopefully all is getting better and be careful of the cotton mouths and gators speaking of Gator that is another Burt Reynolds move and a rip roaring one at that....

Hi Lisa! I hope that you are doing alright.
My name is Laurie.
I live in Eastern NC, too. So far, my immediate surroundings are OK. Some schools opened today if there was electricity, city water and no severe water damage. Which is amazing, since I live near areas of NC that are devastated. I hope that you are not among the many w/o power and that you are somewhere safe.
I'm glad everything is OK Laurie. I remember Agnus in 1972 which was just a tropical storm. While we were OK, there was a lot of clean up & almost every bridge in our area was knocked out. Over 20 years later there were still some 'temporary' Army bridges in use.

I'm going to try to drive around a little to see if any grocery stores are open and if anything is on the shelves. Local roads were open yesterday. I actually received mail. (Of course, the mail consisted of all bills. Which was terrific!) I'm amazed and I'm grateful. It's a very positive step towards normalcy.
I hope that Lisa is doing OK.

We just lost power for 2 days and had a sump pump (plugged into a generator) that was doing extra duty for a while pumping all the water out from under our house. No permanent damage for us though. Lots of trees down and terrible flooding in lots of areas still. I think the last number I heard was 1100 roads closed in NC now because of flooding/damage. We got off pretty easy at my house. I have friends though that are still without power.

There is going to be lots of clean-up for a very long time after this one! There were many bridges here also that were/and still are not passable due to the water rise and flooding. The Cape Fear river in Cumberland county was evacuated a mile out because of flooding. Entire freeways were/are closed as well. My husband usually has a 45 minute drive to work. Yesterday was his first day back and it took him over 2 hours because of the traffic. Everyone is trying to find ways around all the flooded roads.

Hi Laurie, glad to here you are doing alright. Our schools will open up tomorrow on a two hour delay. And I heard that mail was being delivered, but I haven't seen anything in my mailbox yet. Restaurants and shopping are opening up again and things are returning to a little bit of normalcy again. At least the weather has improved and we have sunshine now!

I just have to give a shout out to all the linemen in NC who bravely worked out in this storm to get people's power back on. The last total I heard was over 700,000 people without power in NC and they have been working so hard to repair everything as quickly as possible. I have a friend whose son is a lineman and he has been working nonstop and hasn't even been home since the storm began.
Glad you got through it OK, Lisa. Linemen are great unsung heroes. Your restaurants opening comment reminded me of the Waffle House Disaster Scale. I kid you not, it's a real thing.

I was able to get in touch with family members in Central NC, so am feeling very relieved. I am very grateful to the linemen and first responders!

Is there anyone else out there waiting for this thing to come through?
It has been crazy here - grocery stores are out of everything and lines a mile long for gasoline. Everyone is definitely preparing for the worst.
