I had the best of both worlds, a wild friend. I was befriended by a wild deer, a little muntjac doe. I called her Sylph and she used to follow me and my border Collie on walks through the woods around my home. She had two of her fawns in my garden and left them lying up under shrubs on my lawn. She was completely wild and wouldn't come near the house when I had visitors but she would happily hang around in the garden while I did gardening jobs and she never worried about Misty, my Collie. I have written an account of one meeting with Sylph and you can find it in my Goodreads writing and her photo is by my post.
