It is revealed that by using Brannon's Lock, Elena and Gavin's actions wasted the opportunity of banishing Erawen (and the other Gods). Moreover, Elena manipulated events knowing full well that her descendants, either Aelin or Dorian, would have to battle Erawen and even sacrifice their lives to destroy him.
Was she justified in her actions both then and now?
Elena was a lot like Aelin when she was younger. She acted without knowing the whole story. What happened with the Lock is proof of that. If she had waited, or asked, none of that would have happened. Elena is justified in her actions now because she is trying to correct her mistakes that best way she can. She obviously feels bad for everything that has happened.
Elena and Aelin are definitely a lot alike - impulsive and manipulative. Nevertheless, her willingness to defer the sacrifice on to her descendant is very problematic and selfish.
