Another Brooklyn question

The book was taken place in Brooklyn. Brooklyn was known to be a dangerous place especially for young girls. I grew up in Levittown for the majority. Nothing like Brooklyn, Levittown is a calm and quiet area and not as dangerous. Do you guys agree that the place where you grew up in makes you who you are now?
