Small and Independent Press Books discussion

Recently, I learned that Amazon's printing service for paperback books, CreateSpace, which I believe has for years been the main service used by indie authors, is now closed to new accounts. (I don't know if they're also closed to new accounts for just Kindle e-books, or if those are handled by another of Amazon's many arms.) Do any other members have any more information or thoughts about this? My theory is that the huge, exponentially-growing mass of books being offered to the market by indie authors has finally strained even Amazon's vast resources to (at least for now) their absolute limit.
