Althea ☾ (themoonwholistens) | 1115 comments are there any popular books that everyone seems to be loving but you didn’t?

message 2: by Scarlet (new)

Scarlet The entire mortal instruments series...

˙⋆✮ Anny ✮⋆˙ (annithebookprincess) ACOMAF. I didn't hate it but didn't get the hype either, and I still haven't read the third book in the series.

message 5: by Kayla Dawn (new)

Kayla Dawn Obsidio, Part 3 of the Illuminae Files. I hated it lol

CrazyAsACupcake Kayla Dawn wrote: "Obsidio, Part 3 of the Illuminae Files. I hated it lol"

I enjoyed it but not as much as the other two - I feel like the last two characters didn't need to be a romance and it felt forced.

Also a book I didn't enjoy but everyone else did was Love and Gelato - the MC just complained the entire time

message 7: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (twigzies) I'll give you the sun by Jandy Nelson, The kiss of deception, Nevernight... idk probably more but I can't think of them rn

message 8: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystallee6363) All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is one that jumps to mind but really, there's a fair few lol

Also hate most zombie books.

Jeanette (missbooktreble) | 13 comments Illuminae series...kept trying to understand but never got past 20 pages

˙⋆✮ Anny ✮⋆˙ (annithebookprincess) @Jeanette I felt the same at first, but about 100 pages in everything suddenly made sense and I loved the book! :D

BlueSkyReader_o7 Six of Crows...

message 16: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Cinder. I don’t get why so many people seem to love the series. I have only read the first book but I have no motivation to continue the series, I just found it boring...

message 17: by Jess (new)

Jess Penhallow | 22 comments The Alchemist! I don't understand how so many people are inspired by this cheesey trite.

Liesbeth (books.of.lies) Vermeulen | 1 comments ACOTAR and ACOMAF, stopped reading after that. It’s so slow, predictable and the characters did nothing for me. Also the Chronicles of Narnia. They’re supposed to be classics, but they felt very uninspired to me and quite sexist in certain areas

Madeline Cathryn (madelinecathryn) Lexie wrote: "Cinder. I don’t get why so many people seem to love the series. I have only read the first book but I have no motivation to continue the series, I just found it boring..."
I didn't like the first book but enjoyed the second one. Books three and four were alright

message 20: by Leah (new)

Leah Hester | 66 comments I actually hated The Hunger Games. I read the first book and despised Katniss, so I didn't even bother to read the others. It was before Mocking Jay or the films had come out, and when it really blew up. I just couldn't get over how much I disliked her.

message 21: by OliveTree (new)

OliveTree (themostsmooth) I feel like a more productive thread would be 'books that everyone hated but you loved'

˙⋆✮ Anny ✮⋆˙ (annithebookprincess) @Anya I've only read The Archived by Victoria Schwab and didn't like it that much, but I'm willing to give another book of her a go.

message 32: by Madeline (new)

Madeline Cathryn (madelinecathryn) everyone loves the throne of glass series
i read the first one and somewhat enjoyed it but hated the second one and ended up dnf'ing the series after that

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

The Game of Thrones!!! I've tried watching the show twice and couldn't do it. So I thought reading the book instead would work and I was just as disinterested. It truly didn't pull me in. I just DNF'd it and I felt relieved.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

I feel the same way about Seraphina. I didn't like the world building or the dragons!

Same here! What a drag that was.

message 36: by Viburnum (hiatus) (last edited Nov 22, 2018 01:49AM) (new)

Viburnum (hiatus) Uh, Warcross?
The romance was shallow and vapid, and the plot twists were soap-opera worthy.
And the Infernal Devices series. I couldn't stand Tessa - for several reasons, one of which was that she was just too judgmental :/

✨faith✨trust✨pixiedust✨ Dead Account; Not Coming Back (faithm99) Some books I hated that everyone loved:
- A Court of Thorns and Roses
- Vengeful

Some books that I didn't see the hype for but didn't necessarily hate:
- Angelfall
- The Maze Runner
- Caraval
- The Wrath and the Dawn
- Six of Crows
- Gemina

-The Man in the High Castle
-Paper Towns
-Uglies

message 40: by pads (new)

pads of rainy days (mistellation) These are some books that everyone loved and I got super hyped up to read them but in the end they were boring or I didn’t like:

— Looking for Alaska
— The Hunger Games (all of them)
— Fallen
— Fangirl (couldn’t finish it)
— Red Queen (was ??? such a drag ?????)

mysticofworlds Kiss of Deception, definitely
Shadow and Bone
The Fault in Our Stars
Matched
Allegiant
ACOTAR
Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Shatter Me
Dark Artifices series
Beautiful Disaster

I didn't particularly care for To All The Boys I've Loved Before, but I liked Kitty, so...

I got bored with The 5th Wave series

˙⋆✮ Anny ✮⋆˙ (annithebookprincess) I wasn't the biggest fan of Red Rising. I just didn't get along with the writing ugh.

Azazel (excalibainrepulsor) liv wrote: "i do not like brandon sanderson's novels,, tried warbringer and i could only get past 50 pages before dnfing it. really, REALLY boring"

Have you read the Steelheart series yet? Those are some of Sanderson better books in my opinion.

If there was one book that a lot of people liked that I didn't, it would be... Probably Sky Jumpers. I could never finish for some reason. It never quite peaked my interest so i never got past the first 50 pages.

message 45: by evofox (new)

evofox (brycereads) | 24 comments for me there were a few
in my opinion crazy rich asians was just badly written and the pov shifting constantly was annoying. the pov thing would usually be fine but not in the first book and every chapter being a new pov. the divergent series was just dull and made little to no sense. finished book one but didnt finish trilogy. mocking jay was the worst. up to that point i actually liked the hunger games but that book ruined the trilogy on its own as well as the main character through really bad pacing and drastically changing the main character. i finished it sadly and the book just never got better for me.

I didn't like The Fault in Our Stars, I had mixed opinions of Matched, and Beautiful Disaster's summary sounded so boring that I never even read it.
I don't even like John Green's books at all.
