One Word After Another Book Club discussion

I'm through the first 3 chapters and getting a distinct Stepford Wives kinda feel, but instead of robots the women are genetically engineered.

All the women being ranked by "beauty" is crazy. Beauty is so arbitrary. Everyone has their own vision of what is beautiful. So many thoughts on this, but interested to see if they get into the ranking system more to explain how that works.

I'm 2 chapters in and getting the same vibe you do. It's both slightly off-putting (in the sense that I'd hate to live in that world) and fascinating at the same time.

Chapter 1. This is the dystopian embodiment of Barbie doll sorority culture in its worst extreme.

Yea so far it is a crazy situation the MC is in. Nightmarish. I got to the part where they are shaming another girl for eating the fatty foods. The MC is concerned about watching her weight because she was just over the optimal beauty weight for her design. It's all just a bit much while still being somewhat believable.

Also I am putting the chapter number in the topic title, so we don't run into any spoilers. In this thread try not to talk about what happens past Chapter 4. That way anyone else reading can still participate in the conversation without running into spoilers.

How far is everyone into this book now?

I just finished it last night. I had to know the ending!
