I'd love to hear what your initial thoughts are about this book. Did you come in with any clue what it's about? Does it have a creepy vibe? How do you like the writing style?

Jill (penwiper42) | 20 comments Whelp, it is a page turner. But I'm skimming almost as much as I'm reading because it's so awful. I don't like any of the characters yet, which is a major factor if I end up liking a book for me. The MC is extremely unprofessional in a way that makes me want to strangle her except she's got so many problems already.

I came into the book pretty blind, not having read the cover at all, but I wish I had: I might have avoided this. I'd say "it's a library book so it's okay, I didn't spend anything on it" but this is the type of thing I probably should not have even picked up from the library in the first place.

I am staying up far too late to find out what happens next when I don't even care-- at this point I just want to know what happened to the missing girl and maybe whodunit.

Jessica Beaver | 18 comments I'm enjoying it so far, and the writing style works for me. It's moving at a faster pace than I anticipated, but I've been reading mostly big books lately. As short as this one is, there isn't time for much lollygagging in setting up the story.

I wouldn't say that it's necessarily creepy, yet, but it definitely has a strange vibe going on. I get the feeling that many people in this little town are keeping secrets. And what's the deal with removing the girls' teeth?

And I wonder where is Ann's mother...the first girl who was killed.

Camille's sister Amma seems like a little snot, but maybe she's just acting that way as a defense mechanism. Her mother did mention that both the dead girls were classmates of hers.

I was also struck that both Camille and Amma refer to their mother by her first name. I grew up in a very small southern town, and I typically do the same thing when talking about my parents. Not to their faces, mind you. Is it a small town thing?

Looking forward to diving in further.

I just got this far this morning. I am enjoying it so far, but can't say the story has gripped me to the point where I don't want to put it down. I agree that there are strange vibes with a bunch of the characters, but nothing really creepy. I found it interesting that both girls who have been killed had done some awful things even though they're quite young. I have a feeling that will come into play later. I also don't really care much for Camille. I can't decide if she's and unreliable narrator or just a bit annoying. She's got a lot of issues though, that's for sure. I am continuing on today and hope to finish this weekend.

Oh, and I have a suspicion of whodunit. :) We'll see.

Elsa Sharp Objects is very enjoyable for me so far. It's not beautiful writing, but it is easy and interesting.

I heard a few BookTubers describe the plot, so I knew a little about it going in. I enjoyed Gone Girl, so I am expecting to get a similar experience with Sharp Objects. I hope there will be a big twist!
