I have to disagree a little bit with you, Jubilena, when it comes to the definition of racism. It's definitely not just a white person oppressing a black person, but it's not any race oppressing another one, either. I would say that it's really the degrading of oppressed racial minorities by a privileged race, aka white people. You can't really be racist to a white person if you're part of a racial minority. You can make white people jokes, but that won't really affect the race as a whole and won't harm anyone. You can hate someone because they are white, but aside from being a ridiculous reason to hate someone, it's not racist, since it doesn't continue or contribute to any sort of oppression that has been present before. Caucasians are the most privileged race and nothing that would be racist of them to do to a person of color would be racist of a person of color to do to a white person. Because Caucasians are already privileged and they won't stop being privileged if a few somewhat offensive jokes are made about them.On the other hand, people of color have ALWAYS been oppressed by white people and if a white person was to make an offensive joke about them or oppress them in any way, THAT would be racism since it contributes to and continues a veeeeery long history of white people oppressing everyone else. Racism towards white people doesn't exist and, in my opinion, "reverse-racism" (as some people like to call it) is just a lame reason for white people to whine about being made fun of in a few jokes about Starbucks and Nikes and shift the attention to themselves when something isn't about them. It's kind of like men's rights activism. It's unnecessary and doesn't exist.
Nothing against you personally, I tried to make this sound as polite as I could.
Also, the the Ferguson event is outrageous. I don't even know why it's being debated. The cop shot a teenage black kid for no reason other than that he was black and *maybe* stole something that's in reality worth about two dollars. It's completely ridiculous that the cop wasn't immediately charged and imprisoned for murder...
also (view spoiler)
@Jubilena tru we post opinions here and it would be ridiculous to be offended by all of them or for everyone to agreeI know, there may be places where that's true, but for the most part, racism against white people can't exist since they're not oppressed in any way possible or at least not as much as people of color (white women are oppressed, but they're still more privileged than women of color)
I'm not sure what you mean by being from a place; if you mean that (for example) Americans are racist because they make fun of Canadians or something, then no, that's not racism. But you might mean something else.
Wait... did you mean to say that Native Americans were racist or that white settlers were racist? I may be dumb, or maybe you worded it strangely. I dunno, my brain doesn't work properly during the late PM.
That's true! Not everybody who is black is necessarily African-American, or from Africa. And I'm not sure how to argue the fact that white people who lived in Africa call themselves African-American. Maybe if they pent their whole life there and their family has lived there for a long time, but that would still mean that at some point their ancestors had settled into Africa, because there is no possible way white people somehow originated in Africa. White people DO live in Africa, you're right about that. But I don't think it's appropriate for those of them who do to call themselves African-Americans, since they... aren't. Now, if they're really pale Africans, that's a whole different story.
And a lot of people do not realize that Egypt is in Africa, that's also true. I guess it has to do with the fact that it's a whole different type of culture from the more Southern parts of Africa? I mean, all countries in Africa have different and diverse cultures, but Egypt, Tunis, Morocco, etc. belong in kind of a different... group, I guess? So people mostly associate them with Western Asia, or Arabia.
I do get what you're talking about, though. It's nice to point out racism when it's there, but it's really pathetic to use it as an excuse for something that was your fault. Like if a Korean kid did bad on a test and then called the teacher racist. I know my sister tells me a lot of stories like that.
Sometimes, though, the kid would be right. In some places, white kids are punished less and given more attention than the kids of other races. But that's not really the case in my city, so. I can't elaborate much on that. But it does happen and THEN it's okay to pull the racism card.
Hmmm, I haven't heard about that. Interesting.
Oh, ok. I thought you meant that. And yes, that makes sense. And I know, right? I was once reading the comments of something and then one dimwit said that it's racist for Americans to make fun of Canada and I was like what???? Canadians aren't??? a race??? how is that racist???? Exactly, it's just picking on stereotypes.
Huh, that does sound kind of messed up. I don't know much about it, but yeah.
In Ferguson, the police have been taking extreme "defensive" measures of "justice" against the black neighborhood. It's gotten really serious, and I've heard a lot about it..
did you guys know tHEY'RE USING FREAKING TEAR GAS WHICH IS FORBIDDEN EVEN IN WAR ON THE PEACEFUL PROTESTERS
the police reaction is absolutely ridiculous. they've even been going into the people's homes and shit.
@Jubilena and Squirrel oh and yellowface I think is used mostly by people who cosplay characters from Asian media (like anime and manga)???? I dunno but it's gross as well as blackface (which is still used today. example? katy perry.)I think there's also brownface but idk...

It's like it's the frigging 1950's again I'm sooo mad every time I log into tumblr there's more news about the shitty stuff the police did and it makes me want to rip my hair out wth
nope. I've watched some news reports when I was bored and saw it on TV, but I haven't watched any videos... should I?
I've watched two or three of the ones that've popped up on my dash. most of them are of the people living there talking about the situation, if you want to see for yourself what's going down. apparently the footage keeps being taken down, though.
well I guess it's not that different than reading the news that comes up on my dash, then.that's a bummer. I guess they keep taking it down because of personal safety reasons? maybe they could get n trouble if they're found sharing this kind of stuff. or maybe the people recorded don't want it to be shared. hm.
