The Mandalorian
Man, for a sec I read that as "The Midichlorian" and was wondering I this was "Star Wars: Fantastic Voyage".
With Dave directing the first episode, I have high hopes for that complexity shining through. And considering he has no other live action directing credits, I think “setting the tone early” would be a good use of his very able storytelling ability, and maybe why that choice was made.
Rick wrote: "Man, for a sec I read that as "The Midichlorian" and was wondering I this was "Star Wars: Fantastic Voyage"."Actually, that's happening, too, and shame on you for leaking the plot of episode IX. It's basically the plot of Innerspace, but this time it's Rey and Chewie flying the falcon through the not quite burnt body of Darth Vader. They search for the one midichlorian that fathered Anakin Skywalker. Complications ensue when two plausible stories are revealed, one evil and the other benevolent. What will Rey and Chewie do? I probably should have put a spoiler tag in there, but it's soooo obvious that's what's going to happen December 19, that I'm sure most of you agree it would have been unnecessary.

Wonder how much this Disney+ thing gonna cost.

On a slight tangent. I've been enjoying watching "The Chef Show" on Netflix with Jon Favreau. I got to the Skywalker Ranch episode, and his guest is Dave Filoni. Fun episode, not much Star Wars related, except in passing, but just fun to see the two interact, along with the pro chef. During the credit roll, Dave does have a short funny story about getting hired at Lucasfilm.

Thwnks, Hyena. The lineup does not look as good (yet?) as Amazon's with its The Expanse, Mrs Meisel, LOTR, WOT..etc.
Remember that LOTR and WOT don't exist yet on Amazon. If you're a fan of Disney stuff, the channel is a no-brainer not just for new content but all of the existing stuff.

I think they announced The Simpsons will be exclusive to Disney+, for instance.

I expect LotR and WoT are still 2-3 years away, the same as the various Marvel and Star Wars shows coming to Disney+. I’m assuming Disney will also do stuff that’s in the Epic Fantasy genre. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make a Willow series.

There is a really hilarious episode of "Life's Too Short" (A mockumentary about a fictionalised life of Warwick Davis, who was Willow in the movie) which has a guest appearance by Val Kilmer and his quest to make Willow 2.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life%27...
Things are looking up for Warwick when he is approached by Hollywood star Val Kilmer to film a sequel to 1988 fantasy film Willow. However, he needs to help finance the movie himself
I love the whole series and apart from the Willow parts, Val Kilmer is continually putting on a Batman mask and asking people to guess who he is. Of course no-one remembers that Val Kilmer was ever Batman ;-)

I am not too interested with Disney's old stuff (watched most of them already) so my go-to shows would only be this one, the new Clone Wars, and maybe that Cassian Andor show....

That's the US price. It is AU$8.99 a month in Australia. We get it a week after the US.
I don't think Indonesia has a start date for Disney+ or a price yet.

I did not think of that. However, there's a possibility it will be blocked (just like Netflix) by the major internet providers here.
Anyone else watch episode 1 yet? When I saw this active I assume it did, but maybe I just haven't been in here since October? I've been kind of falling behind on goodreads lately.
I thought episode 1 started kind of slow. And the early scenes felt low budget/fan film to me. Maybe that was more the style they are going for with "space western" but I don't know.
But later on things really picked up. Both plot-wise and special effects wise.
Also, I like that he never takes off his helmet.
I know very little about the Mandalorians. Just a bit from the 1 time I watched the prequels and mostly the stuff from Star Wars: Rebels
I also looked up the time period and apparently it's 5 years after episode 6 and 25 before episode 7. That seems to give a lot of wiggle room with plot/characters.
Minor spoiler (view spoiler)
I'm really curious where things are going with (Major spoilers): (view spoiler)

I hadn't seen any of the trailers so I wasn't expecting the story to lean into the space western vibe. I agree that the opening had a slow pace, but I got a kick out of the asset and I'm looking forward to learning more about this story.

I'm seeing mixed reviews for The Mandalorian.
Is only 1 episode up or have they released the whole series.
I still have 5 days to go before D+ becomes available here.

OK thanks. That and the new Marvel stuff is what I want to see.

According to The Verge, new episodes will be available for streaming at midnight every Friday, starting Nov 15.

At least I'll have a couple of episodes when I get it.

That is ridiculous. A 2 year roll out is silly. It's asking people to find alternate means of watching the shows they're waiting for.

Second episode is out, so when they say new episodes on Friday at 12:00 AM they mean first thing Friday. The Mandalorian is a hard-luck dude so far.
I didn't like the second episode as much. I feel like it didn't do much to advance the plot at all.
I'm not sure what they are trying to do; establish him as a hard-luck case, as someone who takes a licking and keeps on ticking, or all of the above.
It felt like they just threw in all the stuff they wanted to see in a movie together in that episode. I read somewhere (i09 maybe?) where it felt like watching someone playing with their star wars toys?
I still enjoyed the episode, but with only 8 episodes in the season, the story won't be going anywhere if this is the pace of the plot.

Well I watched the first episode. after finding out everything save my desktop is too old to handle Disney+. It has that Rogue One vibe. I am just happy Dave Filoni is doing Live action stuff.
Wait , I take back the Rogue One vibe and insert Lone Wolf and Cub, Vol. 1: The Assassin's Road vibe. Now I am very, very happy.
I see that The Mandalorian getting increasingly dented and beaten up is going to be a recurring theme. Digging the vibe so far!And likewise Stephen, I'm all in for Lone Starwolf and Cub.
Btw, what movie soundtracks do you think the music most resembles? I'm getting one part Morricone, one part ... Tombstone? and probably several more.
As to the comment that it felt like watching someone playing with their star wars toys... one scene in the second ep, my wife said: "that looks like someone threw an action figure down in the dirt." And it really did. I kinda dig that the title character isn't perfect, but he gets the job done. We're shown in the first episode he's get the job done quick collecting a bunch of bounties, but then in episode two he gets in way over his head with the mud rhino thing.
I enjoyed the 2 episodes I watched today. It's fun.
I'm surprised he hasn't had his helmet off in either episode though.
Why hire a known actor if we never see him. You may as well have the stunt man do every scene :-?

I’m finding the characters pretty flat so far. I don’t know if there is lore to back him not taking the helmet off but having him leave it on really limits development of his personality. I’m going to keep watching but really have no idea what they are going for so far with this show.
Great 3rd episode. This was the most "western" episode yet. The rocketeer Mandalorians were cool. "I gotta get one of those"
Though 3 episodes in we still haven't seen Pedro's face or anything of Gina Carano. I expect Gina will appear next week. It feels like the main story arc started at the end of this episode.
I can only guess they were after the Midi-chlorians from baby Yoda. I don't think we have seen the last of the guy who was with the baby Yoda, (I wish they'd give him, BY, a name ;-) ) , they have hinted that he is the only one there who was protective of BY and concerned for him.
