There were days when Matthew Robinson wanted to drown all of his sorrows in alcohol. However, he thought that that was really a rather stupid idea, no matter how appealing, and so it was days like that - like this - when he settled on only a drink or two instead. It was hard, his job. He knew that when he signed up for it. The hours were difficult and it it was pretty horrible having to cut open a person. It was to save them, he always had to remind themselves. He was helping them and not hurting them.
So he took another sip from the glass of beer in front of him, his phone in front of him on the counter. Just in case he got a call and had to go into the operating room again. An amputation, or a bullet wound, or something worse. The norm.
Natura walked into the small bar her head already aching as she looked around. She sighed and rubbed her head, she needed a job, right now s he would do anything for a bit of money. Her landlord has already threatened to kick her out many times, she was on her last warning. She strode up to the bar and waited for the bar maid to come around, her nails tapped on the wooden bar as she rested her head on her hand. Natura's eyes darted around the drinks, thinking how she could really use something strong, she bit her pinkie as she thought of her lack of money.
Bars, Matthew mused, were so dull. But that was okay. He wanted something dull in his life. Wolf shifters, witches... no, something normal and boring and mediocre sounded perfect right about now, thank you very much. It was a really nice change, considering the fact that he'd spent the morning extracting a bullet from a wolf shifter's shoulder.
He glanced up as a girl sat down on the next stool over. She just sat there, tapping her nails. "What," he said, "do you expect the alcohol to magically appear?"
Her brown eyes snapped to him as soon as he spoke "Not reallyx the bar maid is doing something right now as you can see." Natura said and gestured to the girl on the other side of the bar who was serving another customer. Her nail tapping stopped and she didn't want to admit to the fact that she doesn't have any money to buy a drink with, she never does.
Matthew raised his eyebrow. The girl was handing a man a beer - like that would take long. What, had she never heard of calling someone over? "Well," he said, "since she's no longer busy... you can order your drink." And stop tapping your fingernails on the counter. To Matthew, it was a cringe-worthy sound. But he wasn't going to say so - no need to go that far.
She glared at him and stood up to walk over to the bar maid, the bar stall scraping over the floor. Natura didn't want to have to asked for a job in front of him, so she walked to the bar and smiled politely. "Hello, have you got any jobs available?" Natura asked quietly but loud enough for the lady to hear but not loud enough for him to hear her.
Rolling his eyes, Matthew finished off his beer. And really, he supposed, it was perfect timing, because his phone started ringing. Ah, because what was a day without having to go into the operating room? Stepping outside, he answered the phone. "Yes. Okay. I'm on my way." Slipping his phone into his pocket, he headed back to the Alpha Unit facilities.
