Sad Sunday (Books? Me?!? NEVER!!!) Hi. Last sentences mentions two swans and that Robin doesn't notice it. What do you think that means? Upcoming wedding? (Hahahaha.) Clues for the next case?

Jedediah Czhikenjhanski Seemed like a nice symmetrical finish to a book that started by mentioning two swans that wouldn't swim into the background of the wedding photographer's shot.

I do think there's a better than average chance that the mansion with the swans on the door will figure into the next book. Maybe Charlotte and Jago live there? Just a blind guess.

Sybotes I wasn't sure if I missed something - but I had the impression it is a hint to the next novel.

Sad Sunday (Books? Me?!? NEVER!!!) I agree with both of you - it might indicate the clues for next book, but the idea of symmetrical finish of the swans in the beginning.

Lauren I thought it was just because the two swans wouldn't unite in the photograph at Robin's wedding, but they have now that she has left her husband and is quietly exploring the idea of being with Strike. I feel like there was a mention of a lone swan elsewhere in the book, but now I can't remember when. I don't think it means more than that, but it would be great if it does.

Alessandra Cabion Ah, thank you for asking this! I just finished and was thinking I must have missed something. I like Lauren’s idea that the swans have come together now that the marriage has broken up. Bring on the next Strike novel!

Sybotes Oh yes, Sara, you are right. I didn't remember those swans being mentioned after the very beinning, but - yes, I beleive they were there!
So the swans form some kind of "leitmotif" for Matthew and Robin's relationship. Little symbol that needn't be overrated.

Olivia Yup Sara's right, the swans are a symbol of her dying relationship with Matthew, and the fact that she doesn't notice them at the end of the novel means she's finally moving on (Go Robin).

Kevin Tougas Thanks for clearing that up for me!
