Reading Pile
I just discovered that the five first volumes of Joe Hill's "Locke and Key" Lovecraftian graphic novels are available on Kindle Unlimited! This has upset my readathon stack. Recalibrating now!

I never pick many books. I just try to finish the ones I have going. If I get stuck or bored, I can always pick another one from my (once again enormous) TBR pile at home.
So for this weekend I plan to:
- do one chapter of
Handboek EMDR bij kinderen en jongeren
- finish?
American Gods
- start
1Q84

Alright, I decided to divide my readathon stack into categories this time around. The audio is for in-between, same for graphic novels. Otherwise, read B and choose one for D, E or F. A) Audio books (for breakfast and social media updates)
(not the right edition, I have a 1h 53 min full cast BBC radio play)
(again, couldn't find the right edition, but at least the cover is the same. Audio - 6h 27 min)B) Seasonal reads
(ongoing read, use for one sprint only to avoid severe mental fatigue early on)
(priority!)
(for fun)C) Graphic novels - also seasonal - read some, not all
D) - continue a series (choose one)
,
,
,
,
,
,
or
E) - start a new one (again, only one, please, note to self, do not start more than one more series!)
,
,
,
,
,
or
F) read a shortish free standing book
,
,
,
,
The rest of the family, on the other hand, have a simpler approach.
The Spouse will be reading
and some of the graphic novels (Locke & Key, Sandman #4, The Promised Neverland #5) and maybe make a start on
The Firstborn aims to make good progress on her ongoing reads:
and
and then read:
and maybe reread
and
.The Youngest has two box sets and he means to read them all:
and
. There's also Dog Man:
and
.

Not to be a completely terrible influence (only a bit of one) Rivers of London is one of my two favorite series. Peter Grant is exactly the magical detective millennials need complete with Hogwarts jokes that y'all know you would be making too!
Stephen King! Final TBR Stack (so far)
Current Reads:
The Bazaar of Bad Dreams (on second story so far)
The Waste Lands (on pg 75)
Revival (audio) (really hoping to finish this before Saturday but if not it will be first while I do my morning GR check-in)
The Dark Tower: The Long Road Home (graphic novel)
The Dark Tower: Treachery (graphic novel)
Cujo (audio) (Now this will keep me awake!)
Carrie
Optional:
The Long Walk
Wizard and Glass
Locke & Key (audio)

They have an audio dramatization as well. I've been listening to that this week. Haley Joel Osment is one of the performers, as is Kate Mulgrew (CPT Janeway for the Trekkies in the group). Stephen King, Joe Hill, and Gabriel Rodriguez also perform.
It's been pretty good. I'm halfway through it at present.

Shelley wrote: "Not to be a completely terrible influence (only a bit of one) Rivers of London is one of my two favorite series. I've listened to an audible exclusive short story from the series and it was right up my alley. I got the first book as a kindle freebie, and I've picked up three more second hand but sadly none of them are book two. lol
I must admit I'm leaning strongly towards starting this series, even if I should focus on finishing some series instead!
I shared this over on my own link under the Blogless section, but here is what I plan to have available to read during the Read-a-Thon. Lena's October 2018 Read-a-Thon Book Pile
Instead of starting new books I will be attempting to finish some of the many books I have started and then put down for whatever reason (I currently have 31 books on my "currently reading" list, so I will be reading some of them)
Okay, I've gone through my books and the BINGO board and I think that I've got a list that is both doable and will get me to the blackout that I want. LOL
- (KINDLE) - fits: Short Story & read something you consider Spooky
- (KINDLE) - fits: Read Book with a Male Protagonist
- (AUDIBLE) - fits: Book in a series, Book with Female Protagonist, Audiobook, Person on the cover
- (PHYSICAL BOOK) - Beautiful Cover & Physical Book. These are subject to change, but for this moment, these are my plans.
For readathon I'm planning on tackling the backlog of graphic novels I need to sit down with. They're harder for me to get to because I like to read and knit at the same time, and it's just not something I do well with these guys.
Then there's two audiobooks, one to listen to with my husband, one for dog walks:
So far the only book on my TBR is the 1 graphic novel I own. I could try to finish the books I’m reading but I feel like I’m gonna be done with them already. 😬
As usual, I have a wide variety to suit all moods. I do wish I'd picked up a graphic novel or two from the library. Oh well, it's good I'm focusing on books I own:
I'm going into this readathon without much planning, so my possible TBR includes mostly books I'm currently reading or hoping to get through soon. This list is completely subject to change based on my mood Saturday, but here are some possibilities. The Valley of Fear by Arthur Conan Doyle
Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons
The Outlaws of the Marsh by Shi Nai'an
Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn
Saga, Vol. 9 by Brian K. Vaughan
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
The Art of Fermentation: An in-Depth Exploration of Essential Concepts and Processes from Around the World by Sandor Ellix Katz (audio)
Those of you who have done the Read-a-Thon before, what is the most books you have read some out of? Do you ever finish a book or just make a big dent in several books? I am still working on which books I want to include since this is my first Read-a-Thon.

I’m a slow reader so I don’t think I’ve ever finished more than one book. I do try to finish one book before starting the next but I have other books ready in case I’m really not in the mood for the book I’m reading.

Leni wrote: "I just discovered that the five first volumes of Joe Hill's "Locke and Key" Lovecraftian graphic novels are available on Kindle Unlimited! This has upset my readathon stack. Recalibrating now!"They are totally worth it! Probably the best graphic novels (iMHO) :D
Teresa wrote: "Those of you who have done the Read-a-Thon before, what is the most books you have read some out of? Do you ever finish a book or just make a big dent in several books? It also hugely depends on how fast you generally read, how many hours you actually spend reading and especially how far along in the reading you get! I certainly read a lot slower after 20 hours than I do in the first couple of hours :)
But the most important is to have fun! One of my best readathons I read the least because I spent so much time chatting and cheering :)

LOVE your King theme! Some of the best books in there!
If you've never read "The Long Walk", I HIGHLY recommend it! I have read about 80% of Mr. King's books by now, and it remains in my top 3 :)
Shelley wrote: "Not to be a completely terrible influence (only a bit of one) Rivers of London is one of my two favorite series. So good! (and I am also not a millennial :))
If you have a chance to check out the audiobooks, they are wonderful!
This is my stack, although I often deviate ;)I tend towards "darker" books in autumn and always try to prioritise physical books I own (too many unreads on the shelves!)
"Exit Strategy" by Martha Wells (audio)
"City of Ghosts" by Victoria Schwab (physical)
"Gwendy's Button Box" by Stephen King (physical)
"The Silent Companions" by Laura Purcell (Kindle)
"The Infinite Lives of Maisie Day" by Christopher Edge (physical)
"Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening" by Marjorie Liu (physical)
"Night Music" by John Connolly (physical)
"A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Slippery Slope" by Lemony Snicket (physical)

Born a Crime is AMAZING. And I want to read Between the World and Me soon!

Also graphic novels make you feel accomplished! For the July readathon I completely read 10 books; graphic novels and audiobooks, one poetry book. April I think I read 1 completely and partially read a few. Page count is fun to keep track of instead of number of books. :)

I'm leaning more and more towards moving The Long Walk up in my list because of what people have said about it recently! This is my second October reading only Stephen King. :) It's my new personal tradition.

I'm also trying to keep to physical books. I have too many! I also have too many e-books but they sure take up less space. ;) I read Gwendy's Button Box last October, it's good and weird! I can't wait to continue Murderbot's journey, I really liked All Systems Red!

Oooh, Monstress sounds really good. *adds to TBR*
Elyse wrote: And I want to read Between the World and Me soon! "It's gorgeous. I need to re-read it.
Monstress is great! I was hoping my library would get vol. 3 in time for the readathon, but no such luck. I should have nagged them. Then again, I should just buy the series! The art is so good.
Teresa wrote: "Those of you who have done the Read-a-Thon before, what is the most books you have read some out of? Do you ever finish a book or just make a big dent in several books? To be honest, my 'prep' for this readathon was just to pile up a lot of short books from my shelves (pics & short comment on my blog) because I'm a terrible mood reader and have no idea what I'll feel like in twelve hours' time. I want to finish some of the books I've started (most notably Reaper Man and Citizen: An American Lyric) and make progress with the other two on my currently reading shelf (Les Misérables and Melmoth the Wanderer), but I have learned the hard way that reading one very long, very dense 19th century novel for the entire readathon is A Very Bad Idea.
I'll probably stay away from graphic novels and ebooks (don't own any of either and the selection at my local library isn't great), but an audiobook and/or a manga might still happen. And depending on what I pick from the neverending TBR pile, I even have a chance of getting the bingo blackout. :D

Revival. I've thought about reading it again for this readathon.
Oh, I just thought of another book that I have been meaning to read for a while and might need to see if there is a way I can squeeze it in.
In between work and a birthday party my Dewey Time is limited (why do people always seem to trounce on Dewey Weekends? Don't they get it? It should come pre-printed on Calendars like Christmas and New Years!)My little pile for the moment is:
Isabella Alan's Murder, Handcrafted
Roger Zelazny's A Night in the Lonesome October
Ovidia Yu's Aunty Lee's Delights
Avery Aames' Long Quiche Goodbye
Ernest Cline's Ready Player One
Marion Chesney's Snobbery with Violence
That should be more than enough to keep me entertained in the few hours left to me.
Happy reading, everyone!!!!!

Totally agree!
I loved Ready Player One btw. Hope you'll like it as much as I did!

I have multiple books that I need to finish. In addition to those, I wish to read Britannia #1 by Peter Milligan, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg, and Brought To Our Senses: A Family Saga Novel by Kathleen H. Wheeler.

Strangely enough I have spent a ridiculous amount of time making this today.I want to read a bit off most of these, not finish all of them (I'm not that fast of a reader!)

This year I don't have too many books picked out. I am hoping to read Artemis Fowl, Queen of Shadows, and
Legion: The Many Lives of Stephen Leeds(ETA: Finished this early). After that, I will see what challenges I still need to complete on Bingo and see what else I can find to read.
