~Katzuki's parents abandoned him when he was a baby, not because they didn't want him, but because they couldn't afford to take care of him. When he was around 3, he was adopted this man and woman. The two wanted a child, but couldn't have one because of the woman's lack of fertility. Katzuki grew close to both of his new parents and they would always play and talk. However, then his father's company seemed to skyrocket and would hardly be around because he was busy with work. Katzuki's mother took care of Katzu and acted like she was okay. However, that wasn't the case. While his father never seemed to notice the changes, Katzuki did. He noticed small signs of his mother being sick, and often would ask her if she was okay. Eventually, the illness had gotten worse and worse because she had refused to rest and kept working. She was bedridden. Katzuki's father was fired because he was insistent on going home to take care of his wife. Mother died and Katzuki's father found himself taking care of the dojo that Katzuki's mother and himself would teach children kendo. Katzuki's father was around a lot more after that. Then, when Katzuki was 10, his father adopted a pair of twins from the same orphanage in France that he had adopted Katzu. The twins seemed very distance, so Katzuki kept trying to get closer and closer to his new sisters. One day, he finally asked them to be his friend. They made a proposal that if he could guess which was which, they will give him a chance. He, to their surprise, managed to guess which was which with ease. The three became closer and closer. Then the accident happened... A police officer came to their house and told them what happened. That day, Yumihara had left to hang out with her friends. According to the investigators, the man who hit her was intoxicated when it was happening and continued to drive despite the red light. After finding put, Yukino had locked herself in her room for several weeks, hardly eating anything. Then.. it changed. The day of Yumihara's funeral, Yukino was a whole different person. She was cheery. She was 'happy'. She seemed almost exactly like her sister. While no one else noticed, Katzuki did. Something was wrong with Yukino, even if she said she was fine. After a few years, Yumihara stumbled across an abandoned warehouse. He went inside and found an perfectly working IS, and much to his surprise, the IS actually responded to him. After finding this out, he decided he'd enroll into the academy with his sister.

He's not one to start or get into a fight, but he can and will if he needs. He may not show it all that much, but he's actually decently smart. He's a quick thinker but a slow worker. Personality: Jo follows a code of honor similar to bushido, or the twelfth century code of honor upheld by samurai in feudal Japan. Part of this is because of her speech impediment, which limits her to only a few syllables at a time, and has left her a social outcast for most of her life. The other part of why she follows bushido is a mixture of her experience with the Black Ronin and her history of reading perpetually. And she is rarely found without a book or scroll or some form of literature in her hand, unless of course she’s suited up or in the shower. She goes to great pains to ensure that she is not found out, once even going so far as to break a few ribs for a cover story.
She is naturally reclusive, her speech impediment acts like an all encompassing social wall that prevents her from having a normal social life. This has resulted in her having little faith in others, and instead to fall into the patterns of her favorite story characters, which just so happen to be samurai.
She follows these patterns almost religiously, her entire waking life dedicated to pursuing and perfecting her interests. If she wants to master the sword, she will train relentlessly from dawn ‘till dusk whenever she can to get better. If she wants to master the gun, she will do target practice whenever she has the time until she can shoot the flame off the candle in a cupcake without disturbing the icing while spinning around it. And then she’ll eat the cupcake.
Because of how quiet and reclusive she is, her face rarely betrays emotion unless she is caught extremely off-guard. Because of this, “Yohanesu” is often perceived as a rock solid and chill dude. And of course, her code of honor prevents her from just standing by when things go to hell in a handbasket, which often has her as the protector type position.

See the dual katana in the image of the Ronin? Those are it’s primary weapons.
Note the dark red disks on the wings of the Ronin. Each of these disks has the same function as a weapon. When the disk opens a weapon similar to Laura’s rifle cannon weapon extends from within the disk. However only one of these can be active at a time.
While not technically a weapon, the Black Ronin’s design absorbs and sends out a lot of radar “noise”, so it is extremely hard to detect by many sensors. However this can be countered if you know what to look for, by seeking an area of blank on the radar rather than the blip. Or just visual confirmation, since a big black mechanical samurai with glowing orange trim is hard to miss unless she’s kinda far away.
Miscellaneous Information
History: Yohan’na was born in southern Japan to a pair of diplomats. As such, she travelled a lot and was never able to have a stable relationship with anyone, much less her parents. Half the time they barely realized she was there. While they stayed in Germany for some diplomatic function or other, Yohan’na began using the European pronunciation and spelling of her name, “Johanna”, and it kind of stuck since it was easier to write and explain to the locals.
Of course, as a young girl with a speech impairment whose parents barely even know she exists, she had very few options for protecting herself. Enter her interest in the IS exosuit. However, because women were the most common pilots, and she was nearly mute, she was almost immediately disregarded. Enter Yohanesu. Since Jo is almost completely incapable of speech, it was easly to fake being mute for the duration of her dressing like and behaving as a guy. And of course, her parents, being nearly completely oblivious to her existence, were confused at first but their lack of involvement in Jo’s life left them completely oblivious to their daughter’s identity, and they assumed that “he” was who he said he was.
There was some speculation as to whether he was actually a he that was capable of piloting an IS, to which “Yohanesu” said he had a couple fractured ribs as an explanation of the bandages, and demonstrated with a training IS that he could pilot the unit, which resulted in his immediate enrollment into the IS Academy, and having her personal IS being designed, built, and programmed by the same guy who made the first IS-AI core. Because of that, though, she’s kinda terrified of damaging the Ronin because Jon will probably slam a wrench on her head.

Personality: Jon is nornally a quiet, reclusive idividual. He normally only converses with people when they come in to get their IS repaired or an update to the operating software of the IS, unless he’s caught out in public, as he practically never leaves his van unless he needs to restock on his chips and soda or he has to fix or reprogram something. He’s almost completely devoted to his machinery, and you can always find him by either A, the sound of grinding, welding, sparking, machine noises, etc, or B, the rock jams cranking out of his van.
He treats his machines as if they were people, often giving them pet names based on their serial codes. Like with the LU-CF3R, he calls it Lucifer, and his AI companion, LUC-1, he calls her Lucy. Even if the machine doesn’t have an AI or talk back, he’ll act like they do, and basically have a conversation with them. He and Yohanesu sorta have a Winry and Edward FMA style relationship, right down to Jon smacking Yo-Yo in with a wrench whenever she comes in with a broken Black Ronin.
His love of his machines often leads him to get carried away when it comes to requests, and he gets a little over-enthusiastic and sometimes promises more than he can deliver, and I mean more than just the stuff he’s asked to build. Once he promised six different representitive competitors IS-AI cores for their IS units, and was immediately shot down when the headmaster and half the teacher staff plus Lucy told him that he couldn’t because the IS-AI was still too experimental to mass produce yet, especially since he refused to teach anyone how to do it. Not that no one has tried to convince him otherwise, the main reason he’s even at the academy is because various governments and corporations across the globe approached him, at first with offers, then demands, and later threats, which is about when he built the LU-CF3R and programmed Lucy. (“If they want to know how the IS-AI works, they better figure it out themselves or make it worth my while. I’m not paid enough to teach a bunch of green engineers how to make cores just so they can amass a hundred of them.”) (We all know we needed a Tabanei-grade engineer {Five bucks says I mispelled her name.})
Jon’s standing as one of the few males who is even present at the IS Academy, even though he is not a student, causes him no end of trouble with the female student body, which is why Lucy usually handles the social things.
He has a sort of frivolous attitude when it comes to machines, often beggin to be allowed to design one, although he takes maintenance and repair very seriously and has even threatened murder when Yo-Yo comes in with a broken Black Ronin.

Miscellaneous Information
History: Jon was born in the southern US, and practically grew up on a computer. Pretty much as soon as he stopped playing with software alone he found he was gifted in building stuff. By the time he was old enough to drive, he has already outfitted his vehicle as a computer on wheels and had programmed the LUC-1 AI to operate it. Somehwere around this time is also when he came up with the IS-AI after watching a special on the IS on TV, which resulted in his cores becoming the next generation of the IS, and he was practically forced to relocate to the IS Academy just to dodge all the governments and corporations vying to fund him in exchange for cores. He never quite followed Tabanei’s refusal to manufacture more cores, it’s just that he’s not willing to do stuff for no apparent reason, especially when there might still be some bugs in the AI/IS Core connection.
Family Members: Jon’s family has cut ties with him after he got involved with the IS program, however he has an AI he programmed himself, LUC-1, or Lucy, who later became the basis for the AI core of the IS-AI.

Other: While Jon is incapable of piloting an IS, his experience repairing, designing, and even building them has him building remote controlled mechs, one of which he uses to help the IS teachers with training excercises. Although his private mech has an extremely limited control range from his van. And if the mech were knocked behind an object like a building or a mountain, the signal would be interrupted and he would have to hope Lucy could bring the mech back into the line of the signal.
Jon has entirely too much time on his hands which is why he does stupid or unproductive stuff like his robot orchestra (I had to), or perpetually try to convince people to let him upgrade the software on their IS units, although the latter gets shot down by the higher ups and the former is more for fun than anything.
Due to his standing as the next major IS engineer, Jon has a strong enough grasp of how one works that he could reverse it’s dimension compression and effectively return it back to it’s dormant form or shut it down if he can get close enough to make contact with his watch, which often serves as a place for Lucy to be when he is away from his phone or computers and the LU-CF3R.

She’s has a short temper, especially when Jon tries to convince her to accept an update or when he tries to program another AI. She seems to have a serious rivalry with the KA-1 AI of the Black Ronin, to the point where she will not answer Jon whenever he is repairing the Ronin and ignore him for hours. She sees the Ronin as a sort of younger sibling, although Kai’s programming was largely copied and pasted from her own code, except for his vocal and personality module, which makes him more like her twin than anything.

Lucy’s “body” is actually the remote controlled mech Jon operates from his van, which the two of them call the LU-CF3R, or “Lucifer”, when explaining it to other people. While Jon is often in control of the LU-CF3R, but when his signal is obstructed Lucy takes over until the LU-CF3R is able to reconnect.
The LU-CF3R does not have any weaponry of its own, but rather copies the weaponry of it’s opponents.
Lucy is not actually the first AI Jon ever programmed, but she is unaware of this. She was just the only one active at the time of her “awakening”, or when she first came online. She often finds drives containing her other “siblings”, but so far Jon has been able to convince her that they were updates that he never installed on her because of bugs.

Personality: James is a very dense individual, comparable to Ichika Orimura the first ever male pilot. He often fails to understand pretty much everything said to him by others if it has some other context. Like if you used a metaphor or a haiku to try and get a message across, it would go completely over his head. This applies to more than just situations with the opposite gender. Even when he’s joking with the guys, he gets completely lost mid-sentence and no longer understands what he is saying. This makes him very easy to mess with.

Atom is a quiet computer. He doesn’t say much unless asked a direct question, and sometimes he doesn’t even speak then, rather just pulling up the document. This often leads his programmer to wonder if a virus was introduced early on in the programming that turned him into the depressed machine he is. His lack of vocalism often leads many to forget that the Silver Shadow is even an IS-AI, and therefore underestimate James as a result.
