Tell me about the book you just finished or about the book you are currently reading.

1. Please begin your post with a FATT sentence (Focus author text type and title..
2. Then, tell us about the book's important details (a spoiler-free who, what, where, when, why, how).
3. Next, talk about your personal reaction to the text.
4. Lastly, tell me if the story serves as a mirror, or a window. Stories can be mirrors when we see ourselves, our lives, and our experience reflected in the text. Stories that are windows are stories that help us better understand the lives and experiences of others.

Example: The book I am currently reading is called Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson and it is a novel about a girl struggling with an event that affected her life dramatically. It had all started over the summer with one single phone call to the police. The author mentions briefly what had happened to her. Throughout the story it shows how Melinda struggles after the event and how she ends getting through this. My reaction to what had happened to her was shock because it can happen to any one and it really scared me because things like this can happen and some people don't have control over this. This story serves as a window because it opened up my mind and saw how these victims really feel and why its so hard to speak about what happened to them.

Jimmy R | 1 comments The book that I am currently reading is "Poet X" by Elizabeth Acevedo. It is a fiction book about a girl named Xiomara Batista that lives with her Mom,Dad, and her brother that she calls Twin. It takes place in New York city, and it's many poems that she writes in her diary, and things that happen in her life, like personal things and just things commonly in life. I kind of relate to some of her personal struggles and just everything she says its written very well I think many people can relate to this whether their old or young.

Kelsey R | 1 comments The book I am currently reading is called The Fault In Our Stars by John Green and it is a novel about a girl named Hazel Grace and her fight against cancer. Throughout the story, many new characters are introduced but a person who plays a big role in her life is Agustus Waters he is her best friend who shares his story with the audience and Hazel Grace Lancaster. My reaction to what i have read is so shocking on how one person become such a big part of your life and make such a big impact on it as well.

Anthony V | 1 comments I am currently reading a book that is called Crank by Ellen Hopkins. It is a book about a girl describing her life story and how she enjoyed it and how she lived in her area. In my opinion i recommend this book to certain people and that I can sometimes relate to this girl explaining the way her life went and it just feels like a surreal experience for me.

Michael M | 1 comments This story is called ¨The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian¨ by Sherman Alexie. This story is about a boy named Arnold Spirit and what he was is he was an Indian that gets bullied because he has a big head due to his brain was actually liquified by ¨Brain Grease¨. He also got bullied by his looks. He is in India with his family. The book was made in 2007. This book was made because the author wants to talk about his life in India and how he and his family had struggles and problems. The book made me feel like the same way how I feel about books. I do not have feelings around books. So technically I didn´t mind the book at all. This story serves a window book. It basically tells you about how most Indians live their lives in India.

Farah D. | 1 comments I am currently reading Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda. It's about sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being trust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn't play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everybody's business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he's been emailing with, will be jeopardized. As his email correspondence with Blue grows more flirtatious every day, Simon's junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out-without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.

Jocelyn C. | 1 comments The book i am reading is a novel called Dear Martin by Nic Stone. It is based on series of true events involving the shooting deaths of unarmed African American teenagers. Justyce McAllister is the main character who got arrested for helping a friend out. He is working on an experiment where he writes to Martin Luther King jr. but it stops when his best friend Martin and him got shot by a police officer for listening to music at a red light. He has to deal with stereotypes and is in a debate class where he mainly talks about white privilege and other things.

message 17: by Mario (new)

Mario Q | 1 comments The novel that I, Mario, am reading is called "Mexican Whiteboy", by Matt De La Peña. This book talks about a teen who (mix white and caucasian) who is avoiding his mother for some nonsensical reasons. This fella is a try-hard baseball player that has no friends besides his hood-rat cousin. This gives anyone a glimpse of a white male in a horrible neighborhood, and tells everyone the difficulties of a white male growing up with mexicans.

message 19: by Samantha (new)

Samantha P. | 1 comments The book I'm reading is called "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas. It's about a 16-year old girl named Starr and the justice of her childhood best friend, Khalil. She lives in 2 worlds, but she has to keep them separate by being 2 different persons. She had to live a day when her best friend got shot, by a white police. It all happened when they were catching up after not seeing each other for a while. Now that people have heard of this, they fight and speak their voices, while Starr speaks hers for Khalil. My reaction to this text is that people shouldn't suffer at a young age, and with such a loss of one of their closest friends. They shouldn't have to be 2 different people when they have 2 different worlds. They should have the right to live and be themselves. This story serves as a window because you can see what's happening in the world. You can see people fighting for justice, you can see people being different, you can see everything, and you can change this by speaking your voice.
