Welcome to the Great American Read List group, Larissa, and thank you for creating a personal bookshelf!

I'm collecting the GAR books as well (as I read them). We have that in common.

I noticed that you read And Then There Were None this past June and rated it 3 stars. What did you think of it?

I hope you'll join us and read The Lovely Bones in November. I'd like to know your thoughts!

Thank you! I thought And Then There Were None was a bit average for a mystery, but I could see why it would be considered a favorite. It is very short so you find out "who done it" really quickly so there isn't that much tension, which is how I often feel about Agatha Christie works. I, unfortunately, have the copy that has the politically incorrect little "Indians" poem so that made me cringe (at least I don't have the "N" word one, that would be much worse). Maybe I am too sensitive. Any way the concept is very interesting but the characters are not really fleshed out so I didn't feel much if any empathy for them so to me it came off as bland.

Not too sensitive at all! I understand your discomfort.

I agree. I didn't feel particularly attached to any of the characters in And Then There Were None either. They lacked depth, but I did enjoy the story. It was entertaining and fun, and I would try another of Christie's works (And Then There Was None was my first).

Thank you for sharing, Larissa!

Great job, Larissa!
Are you aiming for a certain number of Great American Read list books in 2019? I know your goal for the GoodReads Reading Challenge is 100.

I'd like to read 24 GAR books this year. I've finished 2 so far, and I'm currently reading 2 more. I'm off to a good start!

I don't really have an exact plan for this year. I was just going to read as many monthly reads as possible (even if I have already read them in the past) especially now that you are starting a new series for March.

Larissa Langsather (langsather) | 54 comments My order for the first book Flowers in the Attic came today and The Intuitionist is coming soon- I will own at least 60 of the books on the list now (not all the series are complete yet but I will probably always be trying to build my collection).

"I [am] going to read as many monthly reads as possible (even if I have already read them in the past) especially now that you are starting a new series for March." — That's great to hear!

I plan to start Flowers in the Attic today. I noticed you commenting on that list book's thread as you read yesterday. I'll be able to read your spoilers soon and properly respond. I'm looking forward to it!

Larissa Langsather (langsather) | 54 comments It has been awhile since I have been here but I found a few books that I didn't have- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn , A Confederacy of Dunces, Ghost, Gilead, Gone with the Wind, Gulliver's Travels: Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World., The Martian, and Watchers and a couple from some of the series- Alex Cross and Pillar's of the Earth (I think? it could be another series but I didn't look too closely)

Larissa Langsather (langsather) | 54 comments I haven't been active here in awhile- I think I will be coming back more often because it is time to get through this list! I think I still have only read 41 or 42 books from this list depending on how you count abridged versions, but I have collected at least 66 of the book so far not including all the series and some of the books got moved to different shelves (some of the kids books) so I may have more.

I'm glad to see you back, everybody needs to take a break once in a while. We've changed the format just a bit as the group has gotten pretty quiet. Instead of running the polls, I've set up all of the books on the bookshelf with future read dates, so new ones will pop up every month. We still have the discussion posts and our personal bookshelves. So it's all good. Happy Reading !!!
