Mount TBR 2019 discussion

Hi all!

So, I've got two books that have been in my Want To Read pile for a bunch of years: Robert Browning's The Ring and the Book and Royall Tyler's translation of The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu. I've picked them up a few times, and I genuinely WANT to read them, but I haven't managed to get terribly far in either one.

If by any chance any of you have either of these books and want to read them, I would LOVE to do a buddy read!!

Oooh, I was also going to see if anyone wanted to read Genji! It's definitely the longest book on my mountain and I'm tired of being nervous about it. I'm in!

ETA: I just saw your post in the Read Harder group too, and I'm planning the same thing. :)

Oh, this is fantastic! You've got no idea how genuinely happy this just made me.

I'm new to the reading challenges/buddy reads, so I'm perfectly willing to follow your leads if there's a way this generally works. (Honestly, the prospect of being able to look at those books on the shelf and not feel a lingering guilt over how long they've been there would probably have me willing to read them while standing on one leg!)

Should we start with The Tale of Genji since it’s the longer one? I have a different translation; my copy is 1,086 pages long so yours may be a bit different. I’d be glad to start sometime in January if you both want to.

Mid to late January would be best for me, I have to read my first book of the year and at the same time I'm getting a promotion to full time, so I need to figure out how my reading will work around that.

My translation/copy is 1216 pages, so longer but not extremely so, and might just be explained by endnotes.

No problem! Glad you all can get these organized to help with your piles.
