This is my ultimate goal, Mr. Darcy's Library. I've sent a note to Mrs. Reynolds to expect me later in the year. I indicated that I'd like that little corner that is situated just at the right angle from the windows so one has an excellent cross-breeze when the windows are open and sufficient light for reading. And... it is at the appropriate distance from the fireplace when it is in use. It is neither too hot nor too cold... just right.

I'm trying to be nice this year. We've caused quite a ruckus in years past. I want to be on my best behavior. Mary and I were nearly banned from the Library. We would be forced to read in the drawing room if we didn't behave.

It's not a coincidence that most of those who usually get to this level ARE retired! The over-achieving Kirk is a notable exception.

Debbie is right. I worked my entire life and feel I have earned the rest. I dreamed of a time when I could read all the books I wanted. I retired in '15 and started doing just that. The following year, I was invited to join GR and I have been in heaven ever since. I was thrilled to find a community where I could actually discuss books. and not have someone look at me like I was crazy... or worse ask Austen who? The only way I could keep track was to put them all in one post so I could quickly check, that's why I didn't put them against the Challenge Levels. I'm constantly saying to myself, "Haven't I read this before?" and so I need one place to go to check. But I'm tracking what everyone is reading, I've gotten so many great suggestions from you all along the way! I'm so glad I found this group.

Ditto, Jeanne. But I then had to create an "Overall" list so I didn't have to go to each year's list to see if I had read a story before. It does make it so much easier but I have also found some I had not listed on the overall as I read more stories so amendments are made to that list also.

I had slowed down reading quite a bit -- then Sara told me about a "text-to-speech" website and I was off with the non-published.

Now, I just got a Kindle Fire -- and Alexa reads books from Kindle!

Newbie question about AHA - is there an easy way to tell how long a story is? Or is there a way to filter by word count and maturity rating? Sometimes I just want something quick but am having a hard time finding stuff

I don't of a way of doing it on AHA itself, but I've found this useful:

If you have a login for the JAFF Index, you can find out the length of a particular story by going to the quick search screen, then the search by story title screen and inputting the title of the story. There's also a legend that tells you the maturity rating. An alternative is to go to the extended search screen and putting in a number for the range of word count you're interested in and a series of buttons at the bottom for maturity rating. This will then give you a selection of stories and where they can be found. It lists other sites such as ff.net, DWG and AO3 as well as AHA.

More great progress, Rose. You amaze me with how many books you get read. Most of yesterday I worked on a Jane Austen jigsaw puzzle which was gifted to me. The border was all the same design so it was more challenging. I have to read These Dreams: A Pride and Prejudice Variation . But knowing how much angst is in it and how I must carve out a huge chunk of time for that I have put off rereading it for now.

Well … this year I have been cheating.

I use a text-to-speech software to read non-published.
And I just bought a Fire 10 and guess what??
Alexa will read Kindle books. Just say "Alexa read …"

So, I admit to cheating but I have actually been through this many books already this year!

I enjoyed the Karen Wasylowski book more this time around. I read the first three some years ago and only gave 3 Stars. This time, I was totally into the dialogue between the cousins and Lady Catherine (Lady C at the beginning of book 2).

I have no memory why I rated these so low in 2015 … but what I do remember is the story which is unusual in a world where so many stories get confused in my mind. I remember the cliffhanger involving the Colonel's son at the end of the 3rd book and wanted to re-read before reading book 4.

I've just started listening to the audio version of These Dreams. I'm really intrigued by what I've heard so far. My plan is to listen to that whilst driving and doing household and garden jobs, then once my current reading commitments are done (an ARC and then a beta), I'll be running it in tandem with the Kindle and/or paperback version (I have both). I may need wrist supports for the paperback, though. It's a goodly sized tome!

Great progress there Sheila. Enjoy Pemberley until the rest of us get there. Rose has already scoped out a comfortable place for herself and is killing it. Great job there guys. I don't think I can do audio. I have a hard time doing two things at once. I had to stop chewing my gum just to type this.
