I was surprised by how much I ended up liking this book.
It started off really slow and I didn't really care much for it. But as it progressed I got thoroughly invested in the story and read it pretty quickly.
I didn't like that there were so many POVs - when I wanted to know what happened to Miryem, Irina was introduced, then when I wanted to know what happened with Irina, it would go to Wanda etc.!
That was the frustrating part of it, but the rest I really loved.
There was a part where I thought wth with Irina's husband. That was kind of disturbing, even for me. but I LOVED that scene at the end when "he looked at her like she was the most beautiful woman" or words to that effect. I was really disappointed when it just left it there!

Did you enjoy it? Yesss
Is it a new favourite? Um I'm not sure, I save books classed as "my favourites" for books that appealed to me on an emotional or personal level. Which this didn't but that isn't the book's fault. So, I guess it's going on the "books I love" shelf instead
Who would recommend this series for? I'd actually recommend it to people looking for a winter read
Will you continue the series? -
What did you think of the writing? Magical is the only fitting word for it.
What did you think of the characters? So different from each other but all so good!
What did you think of the world? It was so beautiful, like I was actually there.
Favourite character? Irina
Least favourite character? Wanda's dad
Would you reread it? Yes.

Kelly Rose | 55 comments This book was really hard for me to get into at first too. The pacing felt slow and it seemed like there wasn't enough going on in the story, but when it got closer to the end I was like, oooh now I understand.
The final chapters were really intense and I absolutely am a fan of that ending. Everything that I wanted to happen, but thought wouldn't, actually happened and all my dreams came true lol.
I have to say, I wasn't expecting such strong messages of selflessness, compassion, forgiveness, and redemption in a YA novel, but boy did I get it. The final battle scene actually reminded me a bit of Lord of the Rings/Hobbit (and not just because the Staryk king reminded me so much of Thranduil haha). So glad I read it!

Kelly Rose | 55 comments Did you enjoy it? Yes, the ending especially.
Is it a new favourite? I'm not sure, perhaps if it was more quick-paced.
Who would recommend this series for? Fans of fantasy
Will you continue the series? N/A
What did you think of the writing? I would have liked the descriptions to be more poetic/colorful. Also, I enjoyed reading in Miryem's and Irina's perspectives, but not so much the other characters.
What did you think of the characters? Beautifully developed
What did you think of the world? One of my favorite things! I love old world settings, and the Staryk kingdom sounded so beautiful to me.
Favourite character? Miryem's parents
Least favourite character? Wanda's dad, I guess not everyone makes a comeback.
Would you reread it? Maybe

I found out later that this is actually an adult fantasy book(one of the first I've read), but I agree, it had really strong/good messages. And yes! I got The Hobbit/LotR vibes from that battle scene too!

Oh no wonder! Thought it seemed different from the YA I have read. I wish there was a series or at least other books set in the same world. Haha right? It made me want to read some Tolkien. :)

I mean, I think Uprooted is set is the same world in a different country + time...
As soon as I finished Spinning Silver I read Uprooted because I really wanted more... but... I don't know, I just didn't like it as much. Hopefully, since Spinning Silver is a very recent book from the author, the author will write more books more like it!

Cool, a book with a wizard! (In Spinning Silver, Miryem actually being able to turn silver to gold was one of my favorite things. Plus I thought the Staryk people were fascinating and would have loved to see more of them) so Uprooted sounds interesting with its magical elements. I'll have to check it out.

Ooh that's good news, fingers crossed🤞
