I'm about to start a book called The Apothecary Rose. Will I count the article (the) in the title or the word Apothecary as a letter in Thanksgiving?

You can use either. Articles can be used or skipped, so whichever one you want. :)

Definitely works. I can see the leaves. :) Looks like a cute read!

Great! :) Yes, it definitely is so far!
Rosalyn, remember the game doesn't begin until tomorrow. The pages you read before then won't count.

Oh yeah! :) I haven't read a lot of it. :)
Awesome. Just let me know in our thread what page you start on tomorrow, so I can figure up the pages to mark in our tracker post.

Quick question- can I read 2 books for one category? (I want to read both books in a series for the family series task and I'm curious if both of them will count toward points)
Melanie, with books started before this game start, do we start with each festive season from scratch. For example, if I have started a book before 19 Nov, and say on page 10, but didn't finish it for thanksgiving, and then finish it for the christmas one which starts the 10th Dec... and say on page 120 on 10 Dec, do I count from 120 for that one or from 10 when this game started?
Lilian wrote: "Quick question- can I read 2 books for one category? Why not use the second one for the freebie or see if it qualifies for another category?
Lilian, according to the rules, each category may only be done once per team member. You could use the other book for Freebie or see it it fits another category, as Sarita suggested.

No, only one book per category. As Sarita and Andrea said, you could always use the other one for the freebie task. :)

You would count it from 120 for the Christmas one, as it goes by where you were at the start of each festive season. Hope that makes sense. :)

I have a question for you guys, what do you think is in the basket? I can't really tell and need to know if it is food or not...

Another question - for the family series category, will Biblical fiction series work? The Chronicles of the Kings Collection: Five Novels in One is a series about King Hezekiah, his father and his son Manessah...

Yes.
Yes.

That is what I was debating. I think it is too unclear. I'll need to find a better one. :) Thanks for the help. :)

I'm not sure, Mel. It's greens of some sort, but whether that's foliage or lettuce...? Beats me. Did you see the list of food covers in my team's thread, page two? Maybe there's something in there you might like to read.
Melanie, my paperback copy of The Girl From the Train has 370 pages, even though the GR paperback says 320. Do I need to back up to cover the difference? I started on page 64 today. With the 370 pages, that would still give me 4 points (3 for pages, 1 for completion). Based on the 320 pages, I would only get 3 points (2 for pages, 1 for completion). What should I do to get the full 4 points for this one?
Andrea, just mention that your copy has 370 pages. I can verify it because there are other editions that list 370 pages for the book. :)
I looked up my copy by the ISBN and have now switched to the correct paperback copy. Now the page count matches! I'm so grateful you mentioned there were other paperback editions. I hadn't noticed that. Thanks, Melanie!
Okay, thanks, Melanie! I didn't know if you were willing to stretch leaves for grass and corn blades. :D

Yes, the O'Connor Christmas is a family series, I believe. :)

Would "Little House on the Prairie" count as part of a family series? I feel like it is a family series, but I thought I'd ask you. (Thanks, Dawn for reminding me to ask!! Even if it was unintentional! Lol)

I'll count that.
I'll count that.
MELANIE, PLEASE DISREGARD THIS COMMENT. I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND AND FIGURED OUT MY BOOKS FOR THE TWO CATEGORIES.Melanie, does this book work for candle?
I'm assuming there's a lit candle or wick inside that lantern, since it's glowing.
If not, this one would, right?
So...for the sport category...how strict are you with this...For example, if it is only briefly mentioned in the book - for example if people went hunting (type of sport).
Would you accept "walk" also as a type of sport?
A lantern won't work for candle on cover, unless you can see the candle. I can't see the covers well right now, but when i get on a computer i will check those books. :) whispers in the reading room definitely works for candle on cover.
Sarita, if you can justify how a book should work for the sports task, then it should be good. I'm not going to be strict on which types of sports or how often it needs to be mentioned in the book. As long as the main characters partake in a sport in the book at least once, i will count it. 😊
Guys for sports books, Cal Ripken Jr has a series of like 6 books for kids. Here are some of the titles: Squeeze Play, Out at Home, Hothead, Super Slugger, Wild Pitch, and at least one or two more.
Thanks, Melanie. A Christmas Gift for Rose will not work for candle, then, as the glow is seen but not the candle. Good thing I decided on Whispers!!

I'm going to have to say no on this one. It is not clear enough for me to see a candle. I even went to amazon to see a bigger picture and just can't tell. I'm sorry. :(

I'm going to try and read Whispers too. It had been on my TBR forever. I keep meaning to read it and never do.
